Aha, now this will be something worth reading. Thanks in advance for providing our entertainment!

In fact, those who aren't going should stay awake in the same old couch at home throughout the entire thing as the live updates from FLounge to FLounge appear, just to get a sense of the whole thing

JessicaTam, you are well and truly mad... and I applaud you for it!

I was considering SYD-MEL-HKG and straight back in Y, thinking it was not a good idea. You've certainly provided a new perspective! ;)

The last flight of QF9 via DXB on an A380 is on the 23rd March 2018.
The first flight of QF10 via PER on a B787 is on the 25th March 2018.

I have decided to fly them both. This means that I will miss the inaugural QF9 on the 24th, but seats were easier to find coming home on the 787 than going over.

I will have about 24hrs in London, so I will be hoping to catch up with some local AFFers for dinner. :D

And why the madness? All flights are in Y.

So, who is going to join me?

Look on the bright side, you won't have to pay any hefty ex UK APD taxes for travel in J or F!

I've been giving the question some thought.

No, not mad. Stark raving bonkers - although the raving bit may come after return).

Seriously, do you have contingencies for if the flight dates are moved or for some reason the A380 service doesn't end when B787 begins?

Good point. Edit: good second point.

The ticket class is reasonably flexible, and I booked it as a return so one PNR. Hopefully changes won't occur, but if they do I will work it out then.

Will we be getting a TR on this thread as I expect there will be considerable interest, particularly in what celebrations (if any) that QF decide to hold? Only 3 more sleeps before you cease to rest properly for a while !!

I reckon I will have to!

Are you still travelling (on this forward journey) in Y?

If so, do you have an inkling as to whether you may receive that last minute at gate upgrade?

How many pax are in each class tonight? Usually I've found lounge staff will inform you if you ask.

Unrelated to your escapade, but 'the 2' left DXB on Friday 23 March only 18 late at 0953 hours, but on Saturday 24 is expected to arrive in SYD at 0730, an hour late, also in its swansong via DXB days.

I have done a little bit of backgrounding to confirm that I have a shadow for my upstairs window. And from DXB I have chosen to head downstairs as a pillock had chosen to sit next to me upstairs. So now I have a row of three.

Zeros across the (J) board for MEL-DXB and DXB-LHR so I will be sitting in the seat I paid for. At least there are plenty of nines from Y to S.

No sign of my upgrade request coming through for QF10. Zeros in the J cabin don't help.

Always tough to get an upgrade on an inaugural flight.
