Hi Everyone,

I know its a small victory but yesterday I attained QF Silver Status - (QP Silver). 5 days before my reassessment date. woohoo!
I was planning on attaining Gold before 30 April however didn't have enough time and money to do a NAN J status runs x 2.

Not to worry after 30 April I will try hard to get to Gold as quick as possible! Platinum maybe a little out of reach, only if work sends me on a few long haul J trips only then will I reach plat.

Thanks for everyone's continued tips and support on here :)

I would have expected an email to come from Qantas saying congratulations you have attained Silver or something like that..?
But I guess I might get something in the mail.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind not giving Qantas Club Members who attain Silver baggage tags? I would have thought Silver is technically a higher status than QP?

Congrats. :)

You should get a little 'Silver' pack (well, I did anyway). Contains your silver card, a letter and details of benefits. Can't recall any silver luggage tags, though there may have been some.

Congratulations. I remember when I reached Silver in my first year of being a QFF member and was very excited. Another year of Silver and a year of Gold before reaching Platinum status for the last 4 years.

Silver (Oneworld Ruby) is a higher status in Oneworld as Qantas Club is not recognised by Oneworld.

I seem to recall when it comes to Qantas anyone with Qantas Club membership is higher status than a Silver member and has additional benefits over Silver such as Lounge Access.

Congratulations.

I lost Silver a few years ago (family issues) and may try to regain it this year with a trip to USA in July.

Congrates on making Silver, It only get better from here. Once I hit Silver I made Platinum in no time.

As for the tags, You only get Silver tags if you don't have QP tags.

I think they believe that QP and Silver is similar in status.

Based on my experience gaining PS from NB twice in the past 6ish years, I don't think you'll get an email. But you should get a snail mail pack, with your new card, welcome to silver, brochure outlining the benefits, and a one time QP pass.

Not sure about the reasoning behind the tags. When I first qualified for PS in 05 or 06, I got silver tags even though I was a QP member. When I requalified for PS after dropping back to NB (no travel during maternity leave, funnily enough) in 07/08, I did not get another set of silver tags, as I was a QP member. So I guess the tags stance changed sometime around 2007.

From a priority luggage perspective, I think QP members actually rank higher than PS. QP will get priority tags on domestic flights, but PS don't seem to. Both qualify for 10kgs extra allowance/extra piece to/from the US.

QP baggage:
Fly - The Qantas Club - Benefits
PS:
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Benefits & Privileges - Status Privileges

Actually, this has made me think of a q'n.

If you're a QPNB and go QPPS, how do they handle it? I would guess that the QP card is re-issued with same expiry date, just bearing OW ruby markings?

In my experience, no. I have a QP card and a PS card. My QP card does not indicate my QFF/OW status, just that I'm a member & expiry date. As they're not really interdependant in any way, cards don't seem to be reissued. Bith are noted on boarding cards with "QC Silv One World Ruby" on QF flights. Don't have any OW BPs at hand to compare what's on there.

They would just include your oneworld status - as an example, AA BPs will generally have RBY on them somewhere for a QP PS.

I believe BA come across as : QF/RUBY/54xx_xx_X

Never been silver so I cannot say about getting an email, I can confirm there is no email when you get lifetime silver though.

like all the above, congrats! nice one!

Interestingly last year I got Silver, got the pack, this year made silver again no pack.

Therefore if you were a consistent traveller your tags better last a long time, as unless you go up a grade (or down the back up again) your never going to get new ones :)

Anyways welcome to the club, Silver is better than those WP's (but dont tell them that - they think they are "special")

I made silver got a pack but with no Silver tags, I reached silver back in 2000.

Silver card is pretty much useless for a Qantas Club member, I thought Qantas would have made a card for those Qantas Club members who made silver that way I could put away my old Qantas Club card and use the new Qantas Silver card.

Oh well next stop Gold; I wonder what the Gold pack includes. :?:

Almost the same stuff as the Silver pack except no complimentary Qantas Lounge pass as a Gold and a couple of Gold luggage tags.

Congratulations...

It's always nice when you realise that you really are a frequent flyer, and not just someone who has paid up some dollars to join the club.

Side note, I've always seen QP as being higher value than PS, however PS\OW Ruby is not without it's merits even as a QP member, especially when you start flying on other OW airlines and you like to jump queues...
