Not MY mistake but it seems the hotel didnt attach my hire cars rego to the booking.
The Parking Lot Police gave me a 100pound fine for staying in a 99pound hotel!

Then Hertz kindly paid it for me and added on a 42 pound "admin" fee which means I cant appeal it.

I have fired off a cranky email saying why the hell would I sleep 16 hours in a coughpy little vauxhall car with my 80 year old mother, parked outside a hotel, instead of INSIDE the hotel I have already paid for???

To top it off the car park was not even remotely full.
Why can't you appeal it just because Hertz added an Admin Fee?

I'm assuming here that:
(a) Offsite parking was included as a part of your hotel booking, and
(b) Hertz have charged the fine + admin fee to your credit card without your authority

If so, and if you have, or can obtain, the suitable documentary evidence to support point (a) above, then I would be initiating a charge back on your credit card as well as writing to the hotel to tell them that their error has cost you money (and saved them money) and that you want them to refund you promptly.

Again.. that's not quite how it works in the UK. Often, parking is outsourced to a company like Parking Eye. If you don't register your car, they'll issue you with a "Parking Charge Notice", which is essentially an invoice for parking on private land.

Now, that being said, often with evidence that you were there as a paying customer they'll usually retract. However, that has to be done before payment. Once payment is made..... they'll often just not respond. After all, why bother? You could then take the MCOL route.

You could try contact the hotel and have them liaise with the company on your behalf. The FOH Manager would be the best person in this instance.

Go on ... ask me how I know all this ...

Flashback is correct...you are guilty until proven innocent.
Hertz pays fines as they are the owner of the car...then they bill you plus an admin fee...I assume you agree to all this when you rent the car but who reads the fine print hey?
Parking Eye's rules say if fine is paid NO Appeals.
By paying early Hertz saves itself/me money.

As we both said there is NO incentive for any of the 3 companies to help me. Im sure they will tremble with fear at a 1 star online review....

I'd be mighty cross with the Hotel in your scenario @jastel. Can they make amends for their error?
Waiting for anyone from UK to reply....

There was another drama with a different hotel as well. It was a family event in a small village so prebooked a hotel in the Best Western Chain well before we left. Got word from locals the hotel was going bankrupt, nothing officially, so did a credit card chargeback....jumped through all hoops and got money back before we left.
First day overseas in Singapore email saying UK Bank has appealed the refund...waste $$$ on phone calls and one hour arguing with my bank, they want new information....what new information...hotel is still closed, I wont get any accomodation. About 5 days later I was in said village so took a photo of the "Auction" sign and the padlocked doors and the empty carparks and sent that to the bank as "New information". A few more days later got email saying I didnt send any information and case was closed.

A totally CAPS LOCK SHOUTY email was sent off to the idiots, with threats of ombudsman etc when I got back, but I was going to enjoy the holiday.

When I got back I noticed that with no email or contact the money was back in my account.
I was feeling happy then this fine came....

Sometimes you cant win...

Westpac Black Card
As the hotel was in Liquidation, all payments from x date were recalled by Liquidators...standard thing...but they were the ones that told me to do a credit card chargeback in the first place.

Some good news...just now received reply from Hotel saying they will cancel the Parking Fine...now to see what happens next.

Usually that only works if it hasn't been paid, hopefully the parking company does the right thing and works out a way to give you back the money! Otherwise it'll be a refund to Hertz, then they'll whack on an admin fee to get it back to you.......
