Made any travel mistakes lately?

I find that outside hotels (unless asking staff) or in main touristy areas very difficult to get them to turn on the meter. In areas where tourists are less prominent I have no problems. Also it can vary by hotel, at the le meridian never had a problem getting them to turn on the meter. At the aloft never had success getting them to turn on the meter.

Was at the aloft earlier this wk, no issues with getting meter turned on.
Agreed, its hit and miss in BKK, especially for farangs travelling w/o a local.

Cheers

I managed to accidentally book Jetstar MEL-SYD return from/to Avalon instead of Tullamarine. Expensive mistake - should have just booked Qantas to start with.

I blame Jetstar for not having prominent flashing enormous multi-coloured warnings on their website that your flight is from Avalon.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame JQ. When you make the booking the arrival airport is shown as 'Melbourne (Avalon)' as opposed to 'Melbourne (Tullamarine)'.

If you are arriving at AVV and departing from MEL (or vice versa), there is a message warning you of the different airport and you need to click on the warning before you can proceed to the next step of the booking process.

You do realise there's a tradition round here of blaming Jetstar? Obviously I know it was my mistake, or I wouldn't have posted this in a thread called "made any travel mistakes lately?"!

In Vienna at the moment and booked a combi-ticket for the ferris wheel and the "donauturn" which is a chair swing thing in the same amusement park.

As it turns out, there are two chair swing things in Vienna and the one that came with our ticket was not in the same park but across the other side of the city.

Pretty stupid advertising, but I probably should have read it a bit more carefully.

Probably just avoided one here. At the Weld Quay Terminal in PEN asking for a taxi for a short 2km trip. Was quoted "4 dollars". Demanded to check what currency they were talking about, then they said 15 ringlets. Was a little enraged at such a ridiculous price, and once they realised they couldn't rip me off, they all walked off.

They expected you to scalp Goldie Locks in return for such a short a cab ride? Outrageous!

My bad for not reading this the right way. TBH, the blaming of JQ or QF (or any airline) for anything could get tiresome.

As Awesome Andy puts it...

I blame Jetstar for the misunderstanding.

Booked a UL flight BKK-HKG for April next year and tried to retrieve the booking and couldn't retrieve. Then realised the UL website asks for surname first and then First name.

Aarghh.

Booked a 7:25am flight from Heathrow and expected to get there from Victoria station by train in time.

Mistake in my ESTA application. They asked for parents' names. I'd inadvertently entered my dad's first name in the family name field and vice versa. Grr.

Yes but only 1 flight during their promotion. Saved ~USD30 and bid for upgrade request to business class for USD100.

Oh and Sri Lankan custoper support has put a note in my booking for check-in to fix my name on boarding pass. Free of charge. Take note JQ and other Australian airlines.

Mistakes - not having enough clients interstate so my travel bookings have been low lately...but next 2 weeks should change that problem.

Not booking a week away in early Jan (flying somewhere of course) before my wife booked us for a week up in Harvey Bay (yes, I know we could fly there - but need our car at the other end)

Unfortunately, no commercial posts allowed here - but looking at my profile will give you the answer ;). The reason for my drop in travel is that my business (I am one of 3 owners) were given an offer from a supplier/manufacturer to purchase back one of our divisions a couple of months back. That was where the majority of my clients were situated and I lost out in the vote - but the deal was too good to knock back. I lost almost half my client base, so now I need to build it up. Hard to maintain Plat (VA) and Gold (QF) without flying...

Got muddled up with my zeroes...withdrew 50000 Indonesia rupiah from an atm last month. $5 transaction fee and ~$5 cash.

I could have quite easily done the same thing in Bangkok last year. We travelled in F with TG & they give you host to get you to your transport leaving the airport. I told our host I needed to use an ATM before leaving the airport. Got to the ATM and had no idea of exchange rate, so asked the host, who just looked at me blankly. I guessed an amount by touching the ATM screen at the second highest suggested amount, assuming it was going to be the equivalent of AU $200 or thereabouts. I can't remember what it was, but know it was all ok - not too much nor too little.
