Hi there folks,

I returned from my working trip to SIN on Weds evening - very tired but worthwhile. I logged into my QFF account today to see if the points had credited, and it was all OK (earned 180 SCs each way), but there was also this entry:

18 JAN 06 CONGRATULATIONS! LOYALTY BONUS 18JAN06 - - - 5,000 0

The return leg of my trip was also on 18 Jan so is this related? Or is it because I entered one of those website competition thingies?

You get a loyalty bonus of 5000 points after each 450 SC's you collect. This replaced the Upgrade Credit that you used to get.

In my opinion the loyalty bonus is of a slightly lesser value to the old upgrade credit. But it will suit people that did not really have a need for upgrade credits as they now have points instead and can use them for something other than an upgrade.

I got the 5,000 points when I returned from Thailand in the New Year. Hopefully won't have to wait long before the next one.

While I agree that the UC's were worth more on paper, in practice I found that I had several of them expire before I could get to use them. FLying out of Perth as I do, using them for upgrades was not always possible.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ah, OK. Thanks.

I also have 3 unused upgrade credits. One expires this coming Nov. Will have to work out how to use them!

Likewise have some residual UCs that have to work out how to use. Not enough for longhaul. Seems a bit of a waste to use 2 for one-way trans-tasman (just into zone 3).

Anything up to 1200 miles on an eligible fare. So between any of the east coast main cities would do it (as long as no red-edeal fare).

Agree and understand however I'm not sure it's worth the extra initial outlay when I'm paying myself. 8) 8)

I have 4 remaining UC's with the first to expire in December. I value them at significantly more than 5000 points each. They are worth a trans-Pacific upgrade to me!

I was saveing mine as much as possible, but ended up burning my last 10 UC's on Trans Tasman trips before May last year.

As 90% of my segments over the last two years have been in fare classes that no longer can have upgrades I did not want to get stuck with them.

As a matter of interest, my Current DONE4 trip would have resulted in 5 more of these; instead I'll get 25000 points. :(

I think I know the answer to this - expiring UCs dont convert to points do they (like United's 500-milers)?

Nope. Expired UC go the same way as Ansett FF points.

Thought so.

Any bright ideas on best use of my remaining 2 UCs?
QF134 AKL-MEL!

Come over and visit! ;)

(of couse, you'll need a "Super Saver" or better; current from NZD366 inclusive, not one of those cheapskate Red e-Deals...)

AKL-MEL is just in zone 3 so poor use, especially when the cheapest econ fares arent eligible (and there is quite a jump to eligible fares).

:)

Of course I only mentioned that one as it was my main source of expenditure for my remaining UC's last year.

(...actually QF25 MEL-AKL has nice comfortable PM timings later this year and you'd get a shybed as well!)
