Loyalty bonus - what are your thoughts on the up & coming new way to attain this?

Thankyou for sharing this.

Passengers 'just not knowing' about the bonus, doesn't give a reason to just take it away.

For someone who flies Qantas 2 or 3 times annually, this could be enough to have a "stuff you" attitude and join another Loyalty Program. :-|

My solution: Qantas names the desired amount of Status Credits to attain the Loyalty Bonus, and have no set time frame to reach the amount. This way everyones happy, wether you fly often or seldom, you are rewarded for you loyalty. ;)

Good ... so we'll kill this - as many as 68% of out least frequent flyers won't notice ... the freeing up of the accumulated pro-rata liability gives us great performance $$$$ ... mwahahaha

Ignoring the annual reset (which looks to burn me as I'll be be due for the next loyalty bonus in Dec)...

At 8000 points it is effectively a single zone-1 upgrade (for Y- to J). In that regard I do think it is a real improvement. I do always scratch my head when it comes to caps though, what could be the problem with people being so loyal or spending too much on a credit card etc. Surely you don't stop making a profit from their high level of spend.

Re: It suck's!

But for a lot of members here at 1000-3000 SCs per annum I think this is a benefit.
Only for those low-level (non-loyal) flyers, or those earning near WP1 that lose.

(Including carryover partial credit for previous earn)

I think you are missing the point. Loyalty Bonus Status Credits will now expire on the anniversary of our membership year.

I also said:

Yes we get more points but they are now capped. We will also lose all Loyalty Bonus Status Credits on the anniversary of our membership should we not achieve the required 500 Status Credit mark. Isn’t the purpose of a loyalty bonus to reward a passenger with bonuses for their flying? As It will become, all Bronze & some Silver members will be forever excluded from achieving a loyalty bonus as they do not make the 500 Status Credits in any given year. It Is my understanding that the majority of Qantas’ revenue come from the Bronze passengers, they account for the majority In the program. So does this mean that all Bronze and some Silver members are not loyal? I assume they are, yet they are now no longer rewarded for it by the so called Loyalty Bonus. It Is important to keep In mind that not everyone flies regularly & I truly believe that It Is as equally important to convince people to always fly Qantas regardless of whether they fly once a week or once a year.

I really do not understand the decision by QFF to reset the SCs required for loyalty each year. So much for the meaning of loyalty.

As for how it will affect me personally. It won't affect me. In fact I will be better off over previous years. How?

As a Platinum who earns ~1,200 SCs each year I would receive 2-3 loyalty bonuses each year and ~10,000-15,000 QFF points. The exact pro-rata amount on 1,200 SCs was 13,333 QFF points.

Under the new system if I earn ~1,200 SC in a year I will receive 16,000 QFF points loyalty bonus and have ~200 loyalty SCs wiped at the end of my membership year.

So overall I stand to benefit ~2,667 SCs each year but I still believe it is not a good decision and will likely deter business away from Qantas rather than bring in new business. A much better alternative would have been to re-introduce UC's but I can see how Qantas are totally against any enhancements to their FF program.

How so? I posted on this topic when it was first announced and someone else had done a table in this thread as well.

You are only worse off if you earn >2,880 SCs a year.

Under the old loyalty bonus at 2,700 SCs a year you would earn 30,000 QFF points where as under the new loyalty bonus your QFF points will be capped at 32,000 QFF points.

You really only start to see a difference at 3,150 SCs and the difference is only minimal anyway.

Those earning <500 SCs a year are the ones that are severely disadvantaged and those that earn between 500 SCs-1000 SCs are also disadvantaged.

Any Platinum earning between 1,200-2,880 SCs/year will be in front or at least earn the same loyalty bonus as before.
