Re: Can't use australianfrequentflyer from Virgin lounge wifi in Brisbane

20 posts and no one has mentioned one of the passwords yet ;)

We need a list of them all :p

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a password if every tom traveller could look at a thread here and know it?

I dunno about Virgin, but the BA lounge password at Heathrow the last two times I went through (six months apart) was "Vancouver".

I notice the Virgin lounge WiFi in Canberra extends out onto the tarmac. When I turn on my phone after the seatbelt lights go out upon landing, I get asked for their password.

You would A) have to read AFF B) Be within the range of the lounge. C) etc....

Buy as a organised FF, would be great to grab the daily lounge password from AFF, and be ready to input it as soon as i walked into the lounge wifi Range. Saving me time to go and ask/find it.

Let's all work together here.

A couple of Qs: Is it really daily and is there any kind of theme emerging? (or is it just a random sequence). I noticed the NZ lounges for a while there seemed to have obvious themes for their passwords.

FWIW i have no great problem with this as long as it's prominently displayed. I have noticed the odd "camper" outside the Lounge (in MEL and BNE in particularly) who were presumedly using the wifi (and good luck to them too really but i can see it might force a change).

No, I disagree. The next step Virgin would do is to make it MORE complicated to access Wi-Fi to stop this. And besides, how difficult should it be for you to access the wi-fi? You can't preset the password, you still need to walk past the front desk and get your card / BP swiped. The saving in time will be negligible.

NZ changes theirs every month.

For the last three years or more it has cycled through a list of AirNZ serviced Destinations.

Why not link it to your FF number - so that it can check if you are flying that day.
If not flying, then a password is required from reception.

Agreed, it's a pain to get up again after settling down with all my equip. I don't feel comfortable leaving my iStuff on it's own - even in a lounge.

I was thinking much like AirNZ, as serfty notes below.

Sounds like the system would cost a lot for doing that, all for a slight time saving. Just easier to have a set place in each lounge, probably near the entrance, to get the password.

COOL! I hope they follow the great example set by AA at the flagship lounge at LAX! Scratchy card which is near impossible to scratch, and passwords so complex you need a masters in quantum physics to understand the need for the ludicracy!

Good on The Loung getting rid of the leachers though!

So far the password hasn't changed all week, in SYD or MEL.

What annoys me is every time I put my iPad to sleep, it disconnects from the WiFi and when I go to turn it back on, I've got to enter the password again.

Did you select "Remember this network/Remember the password" option under wifi settings?

It's not a WPA/WPA2 "secured" network password. It's required on the "I accept the terms and conditions" page when you connect.

The same problem happens to all my iThings, and was happening well before the password feature was activated (but only on the Virgin wi-fi)... their systems seem to think your connection has become inactive and end the session, which used to mean accepting the T&Cs again, but it now means entering the password again... doesn't bother me too much because I can always use 3G in Australia as part of my phone plan, though if I'm using my laptop I always use wi-fi as I don't bother with a 3G dongle (I can just link my laptop to my iPhone to access the internet if I'm somewhere without wi-fi and really need a connection). :)

EDIT: Mal beat me to the point :)

I never had this problem, infact, after accepting the T&Cs a few times it never asked me again. For the past few months in the lounges I've just opened my laptop/iPad and it's automatically connected.

Surely this is penny pinching, can't anyone else see that? I don't mind the fact that it is their policy now, but seriously, 99% of people who enter the lounge would use the wifi, so I think they need to have some slips made up with today's password, when they swipe your card and hand it back, hand back the tiny slip of paper with the password on it. The staff now have another thing to deal with, with everyone who has forgotten to ask "please virgin can I have a password" coming back to the counter to get one. Maybe they will drop one staff member now, then we will all have one less beer/ soup as we que for a password
For those who say its irrelevant, maybe, but let's revisit in 12 months and see what else has been changed

Penny pinching ? :confused::confused:

It's still FREE
It's still the same speed
It's still FREE

You just need to enter the password, to stop the leecheers that sit near the lounge entrance to get free WiFI.

Should have been password protected from the start!

So what other part of your post is any more accurate ?

There is no more work for staff to do

You "idea" of staff handing out slips of paper is more work than the currents signs in the MEL and SYD lounge

The BA password was budapest during my 3 visits in May. It is displayed on the bottom of the flight information board.

Great idea to introduce a password. I disagree that 99% of people use the wifi in lounge. I stick to my 3G connections as a first option because they are set up and work without accepting T and C and such other hassles. 3G is most often faster.

In an Australian domestic lounge, probably only about 40% of people would use WiFi at a guess!

Lots of people using their own USB dongles on laptops and the like!
