I am flying today to the UK and am travelling via HK. I have a vague recollection that there is a Lounge in HK that is highly recommended and may be better than the QF first lounge ? Can you advise ? I am a plat and I'm travelling business class.

Is it cathay's premium lounge ? If so, can you tell me how to get there and what is particularly attractive about this Lounge.

Many thanks

If you have OW Emerald, then the lounge to visit is Cathay Pacific's "The Wing" . It is a v nice lounge and streets ahead of the Qantas Lounge

Details of location Cathay Pacific - At The Airport : Lounges and the lounge itself at Cathay Pacific - At The Airport : Hong Kong International Airport > The Wing

The entrance , iirc, is above Gate 4 on level 5

Cathay have two lounges in HKG - The Wing and The Pier. The Pier is I think situated near gate 61/63. Basically each lounge has an F and J section. The F section has a buffet restaurant (The Haven) that has some fantastic food - gorgeous bbq pork buns for breakfast.

the J lounge also has a noodle bar (the Long bar). Overall just really nice. The bar in teh F lounge is not self service but I was followed around and had my champagne topped up :)

They aslo have "cabanas" - where I think you can get a bath (?).

There is also free wi-fi.

The Wing is I think near the entrance after security and I think has similar services.

Based on my limited experience of F lounges (CX-HKG, QF-SYD and CX-NRT/TPE) this blows the others away - although they werent showing the cricket the other day ;)

are you flying qf or cx

if cx you can use the cathay lounge 1 million times better then the qf/ba first lounge if flying qf or ba.

As a QF Platinum member, he can use the CX lounge anyway ( as long as he is departing on a flight marketed by and operated by a OW carrier )

CX F lounge is the best
The cabana's has a big bath & separate shower and a a room with a lounge you can sleep on and they will wake u up when required, it has a little river in front of the room.
they have a selection of coughtails, a buffet which is great and you can request other items.
my choice after or beafoe a long flight take a couple of cans of your favourite lager into the cabana long shower and chill out.
funnily enough my wife and i went into the cabana together and they nearly had a heart attack, we assured them all was ok.
what were we going to do!! to upset them!!

If you are departing on a OW carrier, you are entitled to access the CX 1st lounges if you show your OW Emerald card. I had no trouble getting access when I tried.

If there is an issue, I would suggest asking to speak to someone more senior

From the OW timetable

Code:
Lounge access by tier status
If you are a top-tier member of one of our frequent flyer programmes, you will have
access to our lounges prior to departure.
Emerald status gives you access (with one guest) to all First Class and Business
Class/Frequent Flyer lounges, regardless of the class you are travelling in.
Sapphire status gives you access (with on guest) to all Business Class/Frequent
Flyer lounges regardless of the class you are travelling in.

Cool thks dave i don't even bother going to the ****ty ba/qf lounge the j lounge is better , have you been to the qf/ba f lounge one, it has two unisex toilets and no showers anyway. the cx lounge is a pleasure to goto and stay a while.

They were very good recently with me. I was flying F and colleague was flying Upper Class with Virgin. They allowed me to guest him in when he wasnt even with me (he joined me after some shopping). I am not OW Emerald either :(

IIRC, you were traveling CX F class... the favor was allowing you a guest not traveling with you ...

Yup - I missed the word travelling as you point out. Still a reasonable thing to do I feel.

The QF lounge at HKG had shower facilities last time I looked. They are shared with and located in the business class lounge section.

However, I do agree the CX lounges are significantly better. I had had no problems using The Wing when flying with Qantas. No questions asked, just invited to head to the F lounge.

what about if flying business on qf? what lounge access intitlments?

thanx anyone who can answer this.

You can use any OW business class lounge but no guests

Dave

also wondering about departing LHR in business on qf, which lounges are accessable?

if u know that would be great.

Hong Kong lounges for CX and QF are like chalk and cheese. If I had to rank them it would be 9/10 for CX and 4/10 for QF/BA. If an evening flight and you can only use QF, make sure you grab a seat can become standing room only when 3 or flights come and go.
