I am now in the Qantas Lounge in Singapore with my husband.

A couple of blokes sitting nearby have been deep in conversation for the last hour. Their talk was peppered with swearing and they got progressively louder. After a while I had enough and asked them to tone it down a bit. They apologised and while the language is not the best at least they are quieter. Meanwhile at the dining table another bloke started an animated discussion with his mate using the same language.

Am I being over sensitive in a lounge that has men, women and children present?

Not if the behaviour is adversely affecting other guests.

The Singapore Lounge does have a lot of bad behaviour. When I was there in July a guy was passed out (not asleep), collapsed over a table, and there was avery noisy confrontation when some of his slightly less drunk mates tried to stop a staff member from waking him.

Yay! Another lounge etiquette thread!:p
Only P1 and CL are allowed to swear in the lounge. It is rude to swear without the appropriate status;)

The lounge in Singapore was like a pub last night for the soccer... But everyone was well behaved... Just a little boisterous. As someone who's spending a lot if time away from Aus right now it did feel patriotic.. But I digress.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I use a lounge as a quiet place to relax and maybe have something to eat, drink, use clean bathrooms, log on and check mail for example, not a place for a party. I would have been a real wet blanket and become very annoyed in the SIN lounge then.

Absolutely not - QF / SQ / MU whoever - F Lounge / J Lounge / or indeed main terminal - unsociable behaviour in company of males / females / children whoever is intolerable - you are within your rights to express your displeasure - majority of times they will be totally embarrassed and ashamed if ticked off in public - and I totally admire the fact you took action.

If they respond in a negative / defensive / agressive manner do not hesitate in seeking out authorities - IMHO the weakest thing you can ever do is just sit there and tolerate unsociable behaviour.

After seeing the thread title, I was very surprised it was not about the PER QP!

Maybe the offenders were flying to PER (on 3K of course)...... Order been restored.....

Agreed.

I'm reminded by a sight myself and quite a few others had at SYD a few years ago at the departure gate/chairs. Two backpackers (I'm assuming) were pashing (is that term still used?) in full public view for quite a few minutes. I've got no problem with a quick kiss goodbye...etc but not locking lips for >1 minute in full public view. I did nothing in the end but I did consider walking up and clapping closely to try and give them a fright (their eyes were closed in passion...). I figured a loud clap may not have gone down too well in an airport either...

Maybe the couple had/were experiencing some "QF love", which is often discussed on AFF.

Hi all, first post here.

Apologies for digressing a little here.

I would love to see Qantas install "phone booths", where extremely loud mobile phone users can go.

They will be all able to pace back and forth in their sound proof facility loudly sharing their very important lives with each other.

.....Ok, so that's never going to happen, but that's my biggest beef in the lounges.

Another phone booth for loud chewers too. :)

Welcome to AFF!

Clapping to scare them? The appropriate way to deal with that situation is to loudly say "Get a room!"

Experienced a couple practically going for it in the SYD Qantas club a few years ago.

Aww come on! Where is your sense of romance? http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/2700000/VJ-Day-Kiss-famous-kisses-2799413-600-897.jpg
Kissing and drunken swearing are quite different things.

QF F lounge at AKL still has 2 old school "phone booth". I go there if I want to Skype.

The 3 blokes in question were from Melbourne as I had no difficulty hearing their brazen boasts lettered with expletives about how valuable they were to their company. I would expect that talk in the public bar of the Cooby Hotel not an international lounge.

As as it transpired, I left the QP for some duty free shopping and my husband (wuss) said they started up again as soon as I left. Tossers!!!!!

Well there's a lively bunch in the Perth QP tonight. No etiquette required here. Business lounge would be just as bad when built because they're mostly WP anyway.

Sorry to say but isn't that society in general?

Little or no respect for those around you?

DYFKWIFA?! wow! yes, I'll have to try that next time....

on a serious note, just the other day in a J lounge (I forget if it was MEL or BNE.. doesn't really matter does it?) lounge profane discussions being held. sigh. It doesn't really bother me personally (I'm a middle aged bloke!) but I heard it go on and on and I thought yeah there are kids and others around here who just wouldn't appreciate that kind of thing. Another lack of common courtesy and manners again. I may ask to have this on my toombstone "At least he tried to have manners...." (until he got his P1 card then he could tell the lot of you to F off.... :D )

i was was thinking about this a few weeks ago in the SIN lounge, it was very very quiet and I wanted to make a phone call, but didn't really want the whole lounge to listen in due to the personal nature of the call. Ended up going out of the lounge.
