As part of our Chrimbo/NY trip to Honkers and Seoul, the other half and I have booked a QF whY fare to HKG and ICN. Unfortunately this trip was decided on a whim and between now and then we've got a couple of trips confirmed, so we're going whY to save some dosh.
We're right with lounge access going out, as we're on QF29 to HKG followed by a CX flight to Seoul.
Coming back, we found that going on the QF codeshare operated by OZ via SYD would shave a significant amount of traveling time and money. Plus after an OZ flight, albeit in C, recently I've found them to be a rather decent airline. But it'd seem that going on the rules, we officially would not get ANY lounge access! :shock:
I'd have both oneworld emerald (AA and QF) and *G (BD) during this trip. Lounge access based on status requires us to be traveling on flights that are both operated AND marketed by members of one particular alliance, and thus QF368 (oneworld) operated by OZ (*A) would not fulfill this requirement.
Our other options are:
1) For approx USD100 extra we can do ICN-HKG-MEL on CX/QF (with an overnight in HKG as QF30 leaves too early) or ICN-HKG-SYD-MEL on CX/QF/QF (more SCs despite extra traveling time - alas the other half doesn't see it that way
)
2) Less desirable: get a CX fare and do MEL-HKG-ICN return, as doing so would ensure lounge access the whole way through. But that'd involve spending a lot of time on CX (let's not go there... those following my FB updates would know just how bad my recent experiences with them are) and we do try to be on QF as much as possible. The fare difference is negligible.
Can anyone see a way around our dillemma? Should I pray for a heavily hung over OZ lounge agent who wouldn't notice the "Sold as QF368" fine print on our BPs? Would the OZ lounge agent relent if I do the DYKWIA thing of presenting all 3 FF cards on the desk, maybe get down on my knees and beg?
Or should I just suck it up and go for one of the other options? We'd v much like to have a shower prior to long hauls in whY.
TIA for any insight.
