Hi,
We will be flying mel-lax on virgin Z class next week and than onward to DC on alaska airline economy. Will we still be able to access the alaska airline boardroom during our transit time? (on the virgin website it mentioned that VA Z class have free access to the boardroom but I wasn't sure if it was prior to a departure only or also for arrivals). Would greatly appreciate any answers. Thanks!

I’d imagine access was designed for departures, per "Virgin Australia International Long Haul flights - ex Los Angeles", but I can see how you could argue access with "Presentation of membership card and boarding pass for same day travel with Virgin Australia". Luckily they do day passes if you have a long layover.

Though I’ve never flown there so am just as lost as you, reading the access rules. I’d imagine the answer would be no.

I frequent this lounge every few months. First of the lounge is by far the worst in the world. Infact my buddies and I joke about how bad it is. I recently sat next to a senior virgin Australia executive enroute to LAX who confirmed they are looking towards another option, possibly in the delta terminal.

You should be able to access the lounge no probs with the z class ticket.

Hopefully the new one in terminal 6 which has just opened is better (although it doesn't sound like that would be too hard!) Introducing the All-New Terminal 6 at LAX - Alaska Airlines

mutant - can you please let us know how you go as I have the same VA-Alaska connection in a couple of weeks and am hoping to use the Boardroom as Velocity Gold.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Z class staff travel?

It said Z on the e-ticket but is a business class seat redeemed by FF points

Just a quick confirmation that the VA and Alaska lounge agreement no longer exists - confirmed By their lounge staff upon arrival a couple of days ago. I'd also like to add that the food offerings (and currently the drinks too with a closed bar) makes the $45 day pass to the boardroom pretty horrible value IMO. Virgin lounge in Melbourne and NZ lounge in Sydney were fantastic in comparison.

Yes, so what's happening with the Virgin lounge at LAX ? This is not acceptable !

"Temporary lounge facility operated by ATM, located at T3 Mezzanine Level, [SUP]~[/SUP]Until further notice, lounge access for members departing Los Angeles will be at a temporary lounge facility located at T3, Mezzanine Level above boarding gates and food concessions. Members will be able to access Gladstone’s Bar, T3 Departures level, to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. Members must collect a ‘With Compliments’ pass from the temporary lounge reception in order to receive the complimentary beverages from Gladstone’s Bar. Please note that this is not a Virgin Australia owned or operated lounge facility."

Basically, Virgin have taken over the old (dreadful) Alaska T3 lounge. This is because they were meant to be moving departures over to T5 at the same time as Alaska moved over to T6, but this has not happened for some reason. I presume they still intend to do this, otherwise they'd be putting a bit more effort into their newly-owned lounge...

Re: Lounge access in alaska airline boardroom LAX for Virgin australia Z Class passen

So... around 20 June I will travel from PDX to LAX with AS, then VA2 to SYD. There will be a two hour layover in LAX. What lounge experience am I likely to have?

This thread and the uninformative Virgin website suggest it will be rushed and not much fun:
* no AS lounge access at PDX, presumably
* arrive LAX T6 and flog over to T3; back in through yet another hateful take-off-your-stuff TSA screening
* temporary VA lounge at T3 with drinks somewhere else.

Do I have that right?

My guess is that any thought of a shower at LAX during the layover is null and void.

Re: Lounge access in alaska airline boardroom LAX for Virgin australia Z Class passen

I know this thread is from a DJ perspective but thought it may be valuable to share my QF experiences with the AS lounge at both LAX and SEA last month.

I was flying AA F (instant upgrades) doing the SFO-LAX-SEA status run which is code shared with AS from LAX-SEA and had lounge access by virtue of the F class ticket. Food was basic but ok.

At SEA do remember to go upstairs for more food offers. Didn't look for a shower at either lounge so can't help there.

Transferring from the AA arrival terminal at LAX to the AS terminal was a bus trip from near gate 44 (same as where the bus to TBIT leaves from) and no sign of the dreaded TSA.

Can't help with PDX advice, but on your other points;
A few weeks ago I did AS arrival with connection to VA. It took about 5 mins to get out of T6 and then another 10 mins to walk to T3. Add up to 5 mins more for slow walking or heavy foot traffic to negotiate.
yes, back through security, but remember to flash you gold velocity card to get into the priority line.
Temp lounge had about 4 beers on tap (I recommend the Blue Moon with a slice of orange ;)), a couple of reds and a couple of whites, and a limited selection of mixed drinks (def G&T, but can't remember others). No need to go elsewhere.
Unfortunately no showers which is consistent with the previous Alaska boardroom offering.

Re: Lounge access in alaska airline boardroom LAX for Virgin australia Z Class passen

second the Blue Moon and it is great with the orange as well.

...
They were not "instant Upgrades" - they were full F, readily changeable and fully refundable.

Once I flew SEA-(AA*AS)-xSFO-(AA)-LAX and the SFO-LAX was cancelled - being full F I was summoned for the last Fiesrt class seat available on the last flight to LAX that eveing.

Good thing too (I would have taken coach) as I had a 388 awaiting in LAX to whisk me back home ...
