loss of Qantas frequent flyer points

Yes, but the OP stated that his daughter did fly Qantas ... but on family points.

He was under the impression that she was already "active" not realising that (i) family points booking is not considered her own "activity"

Cheers

. A family points booking does count as activity, for the account burning the points. OP said they lost their points. Has that changed?

Yes, medhead

It sure does count ... but only in the point owner's account, not necessarily in the recipient (OP's daughter)'s account hence she had no "activity".

The member in question is a 16 year old who doesn't have a Woolworths card or a credit card. She has flown numerous times in the last 18 months on family points in fact 42 times in the last 16 years. Given that she is not accumulating points via a credit card I guess that made her a loyal frequent flyer and a customer worth keeping.

Glad it got moderated, insulting people isn't generally a good way of getting assistance.

So your daughter lost the points not you. I missed that. Sounds like they've given them back?

She can get a woollies everyday rewards card and link it to her QFF account. (Its not a credit card) Spending $31 at woollies will then count as activity. We rotate scanning the rewards card between family members when doing the shopping. Any rewards card can be scanned regardless of who is paying.

Yes you'll find many special people around here, me included. But that specialness also means they can find some amazing deals. (Even if empathy is not a strong trait)

Which is what I wrote.

Hi Rodblech

Firstly sorry to hear about the loss of points

Secondly the site is not full of nutters atall I ahve found many many people that have helped people when issues arise and I may just say that making such comments is not going to warm you to people that can or may be able to help.

It is also much better if you could provide as much information as possible to allow people to help you.

it may well be worth trying to contact Qantas to see what can be done.

Do you have any status with QF? as this may assist you?

But please remember that it is the responsibility of the account holder or the persontaking care of the account to ensure that they are complying and working with in the rules of program.

Wish you luck but would sugest you dont hold your breath.

Please read the advice on here - your daughter doesn't need a credit card to keep her account active.
There are a number of ways to earn the points to keep her account active, unfortunately it is a bit too late for that now.
QF made no efforts to hide the change in terms, so the ignorance card won't get you anywhere.

I think this should be chalked down to experience and made sure it doesn't happen again...

Plenty of disparaging comments about the validity of the OPs complaint and such.

Oh I'm sure there probably were, there is a certain amount of "don't you know that!" from people who do know a lot about the in's and out's of various FF's programmes, they should understand that their expert knowledge doesn't extend to (most) of the wider community. Anyway, I'm sure we're violently in agreement.

You have a site here that could marshall together a 1000 or more Qantas customers and maybe get a result. As a single person I have tried and taken it up to Alan Joyce's office but the lack of concern by Qantas is alarming. Between the three of us we have made 126 plus flights with many of them overseas. From a marketing perspective I would have thought that we would be customers worth keeping. Qantas aren't interested. I'm guessing they see the cancelation of points as a great way of reducing a liability on the Balance sheet at no cost. Are they interested in the customer? The answer is no.Will I fly Qantas again? The answer is no.

That's also my modus operandi as well.

So the three of you took 126 flights, many overseas. In what time frame?

There are individuals here who do that many flights in a 12 month period. Later this month I'm taking my fifth overseas flight for the year. Again not unusual amongst posters here.

AFF and its members have dealt with Qantas and gotten changes made. But, this 'power' is used rarely and only on matters where there is an obvious need for change.

To keep pressuring Qantas on matters where they are correct would lead them to ignore us.

Because AFF and its members are careful and appropriate with the matters raised then Qantas is happy to engage with us, it is a relationship we want to nurture and maintain.

Good luck with your future flying and I hope you keep posting here. Would love to hear how your chosen airline performs.

Will I fly Qantas again? The answer is no.

If you're not intending to fly them again and really want to stick it to them, we'd love to help you decide what's best to spend your points on, be it redemption or store ;) or family transfer :p

In my experience many are too afraid to speak the truth and end up being insincere and not stating the truth. so I guess it cuts both ways! :)
