I'm currently a Qantas Gold frequent flyer, and my status renewal is the 1st July. I deliberately cut back on travel this financial year (due to birth of second child), so will lose my gold status, and revert to Silver.
I am traveling to Singapore later this month, and returning in early July. Unfortunately my company only flies economy.
I've kind of gotten used to the lounges, so would like to use it on the return trip (I have a long stopover in Perth). But on the return segment, I figure I won't have access to them. I'm happy enough to pay to renew Qantas club, but if I choose renew in the website, it currently says that it is complimentary for Gold/Platinum members!

What happens in this situation? Any advice is appreciated!

Did you have QP membership before you made Gold? If you drop back to PS any unused paid QP membership should still be valid.

A couple of things could happen:

1) If you are travelling in the first few days of July, your status might not be downgraded yet. Sometimes there are a few bonus days in there.

2) In some case, those being downgraded have reported getting 3 months comp membership at the time of the downgrade.

3) None of the above :)

I also seem to remember that at the appropriate time, an offer will be made to purchase a years membership!

Ok, new to this forum, so just had to look up the acronym thread!

Never had QP beforehand, I've been Gold for a while now, and didn't really care before that...I guess I got used to it all!
With my travel ramping up again, wouldn't be surprised if I get it back again within a year.

Thanks. Maybe I'll just drop an email to Qantas and see what they say!.

As mentioned by oz_mark it is possible that your Gold status will not have rolled over to Silver in the first few days of the new membership year and yes it is quite common for Qantas to give Gold FFers losing status 3 months complimentary membership and then also avoiding a joining fee if you apply for Qantas lounge membership after the complimentary period.

If you want to have lounge access on the return trip and you want to be certain I think it would be best to call Qantas and explain the situation.

My gold status expires at the end of the month. A couple of weeks ago, Qantas sent me an email noting that it seemed like I would not requalify and provided a link for me to enter my future travel plans.

The link in the email displayed as qantasff.qantas.net.au/fta but the actual URL was somewhat different and specifically coded (I didnt have to login unlike following the displayed URL).

For fun (I will requalify anyhow) I did follow the link and the information required was quite detailed - specific details of each booking. Certainly seemed that vague allusions to future plans would not suffice.

Richard.

Yes but that travel is not required to be booked, flown or credited to QF. You can happily put the info say:

13 Jul 08 QF107 SYD-JFK economy Class
18 July 08 QF108 JFK-SYD economy class
25 July 08 QF5 SIN-SYD......

I'm thinking it is probably implied. Here is their example entry from the page...

I'm guessing too that providing a booking reference would carry more weight.

I qualified for QF SG using flights that were planned but not booked and subsequently credited to AA. This year I am planning/hoping to hit QF WP though as well as AA EXP..

What a good idea! ;)

Well I had some changes to planned trips - my Oz based team want me to go to a couple of places as well as my HKG based team and my US based team :D

For a "quiet" year this could turn out to be a heap of flying: 3xCircleAsia, 2xDONE4 1xRTW Award...

I am a gold ff, due to expire on 30 June.
I was surprised to receive a letter from qantas in April/May stating that I didn't have the points to retain gold status, but that they were pleased to offer it to me anyway. They even included a new card.
I had no bookings at the time and I wasn't even that close (to making the status credits).
As it turned out, I did a long haul trip in business class in early June, and would have made gold anyway...

Had you comfortably made gold in prior years - they sometimes take an average of prior SCs it seems...

I think I was gold only one or two previous years. The two years before that I just missed out on making gold by ten or twenty status credits.
Who can fathom the inscrutable qantas gods?
