Hello all,
Recently I remember reading a post about a small thing that made someone's day.

happened to me last night on VA869 MEL-SYD.

The flexi meal had these chocolate covered macadamias in it. Of course I had the usual dilemma of deciding whether to eat them or take home to the wife. And as usual I ate them - quite nice.
Then the guy next to me offered me his...........a nice flight turned into chocolate macadamia indulgence.
And yes...I ate those too........

I'd be interested in reading about others' similar experiences.
Rgds,
Peter

I think it's a pretty common practice on VA where a customer doesn't want their flex meal to offer it to the person next to them - seen it happen many times.

Based on the title I thought the ending would be different.
I am literally laughing at the fact that you considered your wife and then ate the second set anyway.

Its great to hear this made your flight.

I always hate getting for that is packaged that I know I wont touch but usually the staff move so quickly for me to say I don't want it. I feel guilty as I assume it will go into the rubbish once they take the tray away.

On a flight through Auckland to Rarotonga made the mistake of buying duty free in Melbourne. Kicked myself once I realised I would lose it at transit security. Stood up looked around and ended up giving two bottles of champagne to a woman with a tiny baby. I figured she needed it the most.

I didn't say the random act of kindness was mine ;-) And anyway the wife is always telling me she doesn't want me to bring chocolates into the house..........that's my excuse anyway.

I too hate the waste, but in this case full use was made of every calorie in the meal pack!

By the crew or the person that is due to receive the flexi meal and does not want it.

I have never seen it happen.

No no you didn't. I think its great that the person next to you offered, its difficult in such a public place sometimes to gauge how other people will react to such gestures, I offered my meal once to the person next to me who was so disgusted that I had offered and went on a rant about not being poor - then proceeded to store the sandwich anyway. I was quite taken aback and now find it difficult to offer. Although now it is my partner sitting next to me and he finds it more offensive.

I still giggle a little though.

I thought the shop normally checks your boarding pass to guard against such instances occurring.

Have guested random people into random lounges at time, usually those looking lost or confused, in particular elderly travellers. One elderly lady in HKG was very grateful that I could guest her into the old QF F lounge (was a few years ago) and said 'my grandson keeps telling me about these lounges but I never knew how to get in to them' (wonder if said grandson is on AFF). She was very appreciative of the chance to rest up en-route to LHR :)

Thanks for the reminder. I need to add my upcoming flights to the DJ lounge thread. Does listing otherwise unused guesting count as a random act of kindness?

The boarding pass was provided and the alcohol was sold to me. Saw multiple people lose duty free at Auckland transit security on my flight from LAX to Melbourne in March this year. One guy walk back out of the security check and gave it to a disembarking passenger. He was very unhappy and told the staff at the checkpoint he'd rather pour it down the toilet than give it to them.

I have never seen it happen.

By the person that receives it. I've seen it happen on a number of occasions as well, I've received it gratefully myself once.

There's more happiness in giving than receiving so when you're the receiver showing some genuine appreciation will always make the givers day IMHO
