Little things I like

Going to the ticket office of the Gran Treatro in Cadiz and buying 2 tickets that night for a concert of best music acts from the Carnaval 2023. Not knowing what to expect. Terrific fun, didn't understand the humour (in Spanish), great atmosphere and music.

And this was an Italian Restaurant in basement of Kerry Centre in Jing’An Shanghai - fair chance it was going to be ok when I was sat at a table next to 2 Italian guys - they said ‘YES’ food is really good here 👍 See below my calzone:

Excellent. I like the traction of French restaurants where wonderful fresh baguette is provided in a basket, free, and unlimited. Italians tend to have a small coperto charge but that’s ok as well.

One highly awarded French restaurant in Brisbane has become extremely money hungry (IMHO) and now charge for very limited amounts of bread. Poor form. Costs them practically nothing but cost them my custom.

In Europe one indicates the enjoyment of the meal by the amount of bread crumbs on the table! :)

Went to a nearby ice cream shop today with Miss H and her grandfather.

A single scoop is $5 and a double is $7.

We were served by the kid who lives across the street from us and ordered a single scoop each.

Miss H received a triple scoop, while her grandfather and me both scored a double scoop.

Total price: $5.

LTI❤️ - I have posted this b4 but it deserves another run- shower in updated Executive Rooms Marriott Frankfurt Hotel.

See the shower?

And bit closer up showing handheld shower, rain head shower and wall mount operation buttons:

And close up of buttons:

So simple - top button ON/OFF:

Once ON water temp is displayed - shower auto starts every time on handheld - tap bottom button once and shower swaps to rainhead - single tap on RED or BLUE button will increase / decrease temp by 1deg - just BRILLIANT 👍👍👍

LTIL
A couple of days ago, getting through to a QF agent (admittedly after a 45 minute hold) in the Philippines who understood what I wanted and completed it in a couple of minutes:
- break me out of a group booking (single PNR for six travellers). This is all I wanted as I’d then planned to go into my QFF profile and apply for points upgrades. Agent also then did:
- advised of new individual PNR
- applied upgrade requests to the two international flights in the booking
- correctly calculated the points required
👍

LTIL
Going to online check in and noting that first flight upgrade has come through! (would otherwise have been whY overnight) 🕺🛏️

LTIL
Going up to check in counter early (35 mins before expected time) and asking the guy there what time check in would open. He told me, then asked which flight I was on. Once I answered, he told me to grab my bags, moved the ‘counter closed’ sign away and said he’d do it now! ✅

San Pellegrino is a giveaway too - the best IMHO

Seeing my Teen crying, bouncing with joy and mouthing (rather than singing) along to Moulin Rouge. What a delight! Though I tried to restrain the bouncing a bit, as I wasn't sure how many seats around us could feel her moving.
After seeing it on Sat night, she said she was full of "happy bean juice", which is a joy to see. Along with trying to do Tango stomps in her heels up Collins St afterwards. 😂

YouTube “How To” videos that actually save you ‘00s of $$$.

While we were away on our last trip, the house sitter reported that the dishwasher was playing up. They powered it down at the wall and overnight it allegedly had reset BUT they did find a mystery bit of plastic under the filter which they left out for us with a note. On first attempt to use dw yesterday, it didn’t pump out and threw up an error code…😡

Thinking I need to call a tech or worse, a new dw, I Googled the model and error code. Sure enough a video on how to resolve said error appeared. It seem to cover everything I’d already tried until it got to the bit about removing the “pump guard” - which looked remarkably like the bit of plastic sitting on the kitchen bench! I returned it to it‘s rightful place with a reassuring ‘click’ and lo and behold - working dishwasher… 😏.

LTIL: Deliveries that don't just arrive on time, but in fact arrive ahead of schedule. (PS> no, it wasn’t AusPost ;))

Back on Jan 4th, I ordered my first new laptop in over 10 years (hooray for me!!) with a scheduled delivery date of Jan 16th-17th. Received an email 2 days later telling me it was now scheduled for delivery on January 12th. Woke up this morning to a text advising it’s arriving today. Lo and behold, my custom config has arrived (from Shanghai) within 4 business days of placing the order and a full week ahead of schedule. 🙌

Meanwhile, the in-stock jacket I ordered from a large clothing retailer last Friday - that only needed to be shipped up from Melbourne - arrived today via AusPost. After the laptop had already been delivered. To be fair, it was delivered to the schedule advised by AusPost, but it still never ceases to amaze me that we can ship a parcel halfway around the world faster than we can deliver it between the two largest capitals of the same country.

Love the delivery times, but their ninja delivery staff frustrate me to no end when they just dump and run.
Well, after griping about Amazon's stealth deliveries the other day, today offered a nice dose of LTIL -:

This morning, I received notification that a book I'd ordered from Amazon US (via Amazon AU) was due to be delivered today. Why is this relevant to the thread?
  1. It's a Sunday and Amazon's 7 days per week delivery is very handy.
  2. It was ordered on Jan 16th with a delivery ETA was January 26th meaning that not only was it originally intended for delivery on a public holiday (which is a miracle in itself), but it actually arrived 5 days ahead of schedule!
  3. Instead of a ninja, today's delivery driver took the time to knock on the front door and made it known that he'd delivered something!
