Pretty much what the title says.

I was undertaking a little project only to realise my research underlying the competitive edge was flawed (long story).

Sadly, I didn't get around to incorporating number of stays with the excel calculator (that only applies to Hilton though). Priority Club isn't in there either, but I may add it later since it is popular although that will be when I get free time.

Anyways, hopefully someone finds it useful. I thought I would post it here since it did take a little effort to work out all the formula's for excel and I didn't want it to go to compete waste.

Any requests/comments are welcome - enjoy your day :)

The toiletflushers domain is for a forum that I host. I deactivated my original site domain as it is no longer needed, but in doing so it means I have to use another host :P

Just a comment re SPG-plats get 3 points per $ spend plus(at that rate) 500 bonus points per stay-most do take the points as their amenity. So that would increase the number of redeemable nights.
Hilton you can also take your double dip as extra points thus complicating matters.
Then there are people like me who get greater value out of airline miles and just no comparison hhonors to SPG.SPG wins easily.
Hyatt and marriot i have no experience with.

Status changes everything

Also note that HHonors Diamond get 50% additional points.

With airline miles/points it gets interesting.

A US$200 night at a Hilton for a Diamond can earn:
  • 2000 base
  • 1000 Status bonus
  • A choice of:
    • 1000 Qantas Points/500 AAdvantage miles or
    • 1000 HHonors Points

In addition, if having HHonors Gold/Diamond status you can select from:
  • Upgrade/breakfast[/lounge Access] or
  • 1000 HHonors points.
If wanting 'free' hotel stays then HHonors is generally the better program. This is also true if you want to earn Qantas FF points.

However, if you want to transfer the hotel points to a USA based Airline programs then SPG is generally a better option than HHonors.

Hi guys,

Hmm. I didn't really double check all of it, but I thought I would have got the diamond point gain... Thing is it is very easy to edit so I can fix it quickly (not on a computer with excel at the moment though so I can't do it right now sorry).

Also I didn't make it so it had the extra point gain with Hilton. It seemed like it was a bit of extra coding that I didn't really need at the time, although to be honest it is fairly easy to work it out yourself.

I'll double check everything though.

There are a bunch of extra weird points for hilton family hotels though like waldorf astoria, etc. which complicate things a lot more. This is more meant as an idea to calculate approximate point gain.

Having said that though I just thought of a potential flaw with how hilton status is calculated which I will also have to double check. Their use of base points makes things a bit harder.
