Have I outsmarted myself?

Selected myself 33G (33F empty) upstairs on the A380 with the rest of the family downstairs taking up D/E/G in a row downstairs, set a seat alert thinking that if upgrades are handed out they will likely be from upstairs, potentially freeing up the rest of row 33 for the family. Logged in this morning out of interest to see if some of the blocked seats had opened up at T-80, but instead now 90% of the plane is blocked according to QF seat selection tool, including the spare seat I left near my family!!

Looking on expert flyer, where at T-90 about 50% of the flight had free seats with only a few blocked (mainly bulkhead), now at T-79 most of the previously free seats are showing blocked (as opposed to taken). Will it stay this way until checkin? I might get a peaceful flight sitting up stairs by myself, but the noise at the other end will be unbearable if I leave SWMBO with the skids for the flight :)

Is QFi different at T-80 than QFd, where at on QFd available to select seats open up rather than disappear?

Don't forget, at T-80 the flight opens up for everyone, so you'll all of a sudden get everyone from PS's through to P1's all vying for that perfect seat. So sure at T-90 most of the good seats might be unallocated, at T-80 onwards it's open season.

Of course it could always just be a bug with QF's system, or you've really been unlucky.

Keep looking every day, something will shake free
I'd be at the ready at T-24, since that will be when the upgrades go through thus potentially freeing up plum seats which had already been picked by status members.

It does vary but anywhere between T-24 and T-48 is when I have had upgrades confirmed....

At T-100 I was still hopeful of my own upgrade coming through, with EF showing F3 J9 W8, but that has all changed in the last 24 hours and now we are F3 J1 W4.

Now I would just be happy to be able to select the middle seat I left my self in row 69!!

I'm at T-21hr and EF still shows Y+ exit rows blocked. Better than being occupied I guess.

still some chance of it clearing if you selected to the gate, i saw similar on my last flight - no upgrade at t-24 then a stack of new boarding passes waiting at the gate and a successful move to J
