Looking to go one-way from MEL-PER before the end of September. I believe that the airlines normally put extra flights on to cater for the AFL fans coming to Melbourne. Thinking that there might be lots of empty seats heading in the westerly direction, does anyone think there may be some last minutes specials from MEL-PER to help them fill the flights up?

Only if the WeeGirls actually make it into the Grand Final :!:

Maybe find some similar flights 24th.

As for the end of September, do you really wish to possibly join a throng of disgruntled Cats/Pies/Hawks supporters heading out of town? :P

Gotta be brave and do what I did last week, be confident book early:!: :p

Booked last Tuesday morning with QF for this weekends preliminary final, $833 return. Not great but compared to now...

If we do make the Grand Final then there will be extra flights. If I recall from last time, MEL-PER flights were not that cheap, even with the HUGE number of extra flights.

Edit: Misread your OP, sorry. Edited the main point...

Also pays to keep in mind that there are more QF 737s based in Perth than in 2006 afaik. Less need for aircraft to transit across from other ports.

I flew Sydney to Melbourne this past Friday. I think the Sydney (Swans?) team were playing a game on Friday night.

As soon as their game was confirmed a lot of U class seats seemed to open up on flights for that morning, when there were previously none available.
