I was just having a read of this page on the Qantas website:

I couldn't help noticing that the lifetime status requirements on that page state that you have to earn 7,000, 14,000 or 75,000 lifetime status credits "on Qantas or Jetstar".

There is a symbol after this which has a broken link to a disclaimer that doesn't actually appear anywhere on that page.

Am I missing something? Do only status credits earned on QF/JQ flights now count towards lifetime status - I'm sure this wasn't previously the case? Or is there something funny going on with the Qantas website?

I think it’s a mistake. SC earned on all eligible one world airlines contribute towards Lifetime membership.

That was my understanding also.

I wonder why they would specifically say "on Qantas or Jetstar" on that page though when referring to lifetime status? That wording isn't used when listing the requirements to earn Silver, Gold or Platinum status, but is when referring to the Loyalty Bonus which only QF/JQ flights count towards.

I sincerely do hope this is a mistake, rather than Qantas preparing to make some changes enhancements...

Probably a simple copy paste mistake from a few row above in this table

As much as I hate to suggest it, could there be some changes on the way?

I'm noticing the following lines also now appear for selecting Status Credits for your Loyalty Bonuses at certain statuses:

"Loyalty Bonus Status Credits count towards Lifetime Status Credits and retaining Platinum (when chosen before 31 December 2021."

"If selected before 31 December 2021, Loyalty Bonus Status Credits do count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status."

This page seems to have come online around April of this year and looking at archive.org, the same wording existed back then too: "xx_ Lifetime Status Credits on Qantas or Jetstar".

Loyalty bonus SC never counted towards P1 earn/retain so that’s than odd addition.

Interesting. They seem to be suggesting SC;'s earned on QFJQ (ie: revenue to QF) now count to LTSC.

Dare Is say it.. this makes sense. It fits with the P1 minimum requirement (2700 QF/JQ SC) and basically pushes you to a minimum QF status earn.

Now how long till they define Status as defined by QF/JQ earn vs. oneworld SC earn.

I feel there is a line there baaed on QF earn. It makes some sense

If QF makes changes so that only QF/JQ flights count, I would switch to BA Executive Club tomorrow.

I think in oneworld Alaska have a similar restriction for their lifetime status in that I think only Alaska flights count.

The prospect of achieving lifetime silver or gold are the only reason I credit to Qantas, as the points earnings on partner flights are very poor, and redemptions seem to have high taxes and charges on routes that are useful to me.

If Qantas change the requirements for lifetime status so that only QF/JQ flights counts I will switch back to BA Executive Club.

I definitely agree this would be a very bad change indeed. I do (well have in the past) flown plenty of OW in addition to a lot of QF and it wouldn't really be fair imo. Specially after allowing OW SC to count for so long.

I do recall when UA merged with CO they did a similar thing - they converted all miless earned on Star Partners as a one off, but from then on only miles earned on UA (and maybe LH, I forget) counted to lifetime. It gave me a huge boost personally given heaps of NZ, SQ (and AN :( ) flights ... so there is industry precedence unfortunately.

If this actually is a change this seems to be something that should have been communicated to members as seems fairly significant imo.

I've got a feeling it's a copy and paste mistake on that page or something similar. There is nothing in the program T&C's to suggest that this has changed — it still mentions "coughulative Status Credits" more broadly, not QF/JQ status credits specifically.

With more people flying with partner airlines now — I suppose we'll be able to get confirmation from someone soon anyways, but I suspect (hope) nothing has changed.

Maybe Qantas just realised too many of us will reach LTP?

Totally agree, no need to get anxious about this.

I mean, the only legit reason qantas could do this change is if they suddenly realise too many of us will make it to LTP.

I've flown a number of oneworld partner flights this year, the most recent being last week. They have all added to the lifetime total. I don't think the concern is that anything has changed yet, but that the wording might be reflecting a forthcoming change in the near future..

I don't think anyone need worry about lifetime status credits they have already earned with partner airlines in the past, as I don't think these would be removed even if they do make a change to only count QF/JQ flights in future.

I hope if they are planning this change that they announce it soon so that I don't waste my time crediting any more flights to Qantas, as I'll never get to lifetime silver or gold with only QF/JQ flights.

I'm 1,109 SC away from LTG. As soon as that is locked in all my SC earning flights will be credited to BA.

For my flying it will be quicker to start from (near) 0 with BA compared to moving from LTG to LTP on QF.

I really hope there isn't some retrospective change to earning eligibility.

Depends if you're just after Emerald. There are benefits to QF Platinum (and in particular, Lifetime Platinum) that go beyond Emerald.
