6 years after joining QFF I can say it was an intense climb up the SC's ladder all the way to P1 and finally, LTG.
I must admit I was very motivated to collect SC's and it often helped me to get through the hundreds of domestic Y flights I had to endure for my biz trips.

To celebrate this special occasion I reckon there is no better place then SYD Flounge, so I booked my return to MEL this week on JQ35.
I checked in exactly 3 hours before the flight and went straight to the lounge to book a massage. There was one spot available so I didn't even have to wait, my lucky day!! After that I had a lovely 3 course lunch with 3 glasses of 'matching' wines and even had an extra half hour to relax before boarding.
All in all a great experience, I must do it more often...

It's a strange feeling getting LTG. On one hand, it's great for all the obvious reasons, on the other hand, I'm not sure how I will keep motivating myself to fly so much now that I don't have anymore 'challenges' left.
Anyway, 1st world problems...

I would also like to use this thread to thank all the people in this forum for the huge amount of information and all the great tips they share with everyone.
I read a lot of interesting threads in the short time I'm a member.

Cheers

Thats great Boomy :) Congrats on getting LTG, I myself am 85 sc's off LTG so in a few weeks it'll be mine too.

I feel the same about LTG, great feeling being so close to getting it, but as you say well, whats next..... Great way of celebrating getting LTG too, love it & again well done.

Congratulations!

Now it's time to welcome you to AA.

Welcome to the club Boomy. I know exactly how you feel, like you I did all mine in discount ecomony (yes I know I spelt it wrong).

I'm retired and rarely fly these days, but it is nice to be able to have domestic lounge access whenever I fly.

Congrats Boomy, I'm close enough that it might just happen next next with some judicious YUPPs (<2400 to go).

Six years is a great effort, I should do mine in about 8 years.

Not so fast! LTG is indeed good, but Emerald is where it's really at. (e.g JQ35 and Flounging :p)

Unless you live in the USA or travel regularly on high value flexible or premium fares then Emerald is easiest to attain with QF.

Posting as a LTG since the end of last decade .. . :D

FWIW, it took me from when TC's were introduced in September 1998 - but there's over 200 prior eligible flights unaccounted for in that tally.

Congratulations Boomy, I'm not travelling for business so it will take me a long time to get there. Well done.

40 more sc here till ltg

not much point changing from QF after that there arent any aa flights to wagga theyre now all coded EK!

Agreed on all counts.

I'll also attain WP each year via the bare minimum as there is nothing else to gain with QF. The OP mentions he is P1 which IMHO is a complete waste of loyalty. If I were the OP I would attain WP then credit all relevant fares over to AA and use the lucrative award system they have and save a packet over QF. Of course and as always YMMV.

As much as I'd love to continue crediting to QF there's simply no logical reason to, which is unfortunate. Therefore my AA points balance is increasing nicely.

Congrats!

I hope to one day get there too, and do worry that without a further goal I'll have issues continuing, but I like the airline and if they can provide that lifetime status, being loyal by flying and crediting to them back would be the least I could do ;)

Nice one. 6 years is pretty impressive!

I'll be posting a thread like this in a couple of weeks.......it's taken me 17 years:shock:

I'm 25sc away... And then I decide. Credit to BA? (Good if I remain resident in the UK) or AA. Maybe even Iberia.. Something to work out.

Congratulations boomy - that is a lot of regular flying and time away from home. Glad to see you have garnered information from the community.

Thanks everyone!!

I noticed some of you think it's a good idea to collect SC's with other airlines such as AA.
I never looked into this option and maybe now it's the right time.

I agree that P1 is not much better than WP, specially when most of my flights are domestic in Y (didn't get more upgrades since I'm P1).
Therefore, it make sense to me that the best option is to keep WP with QF and credit the rest of my SC's to another program and maybe get platinum there.

Can anyone tell me the Advantage AA has over other programs, like CX or EK?
I should say that I'm not flying to the US often (maybe once every 2 years).
Most of my international flights (4-5 a year) are to Asia & Europe. I usually upgrade to J on points or use classic awards.

The AA program has cheaper redemptions on QF/BA/CX aircraft. A lot of threads here. Chaps like DrRon are well across the intricate details.

i am looking at doing something like this as well
