Hi, it's looking likely that I will fly the non stop Lhr to Perth flight in economy next April. There will be 2 of us travelling together. Im assuming it will be quite full as it's towards the end of the Easter school holidays.

Any recommendations at all for best seats for this awfully long flight in economy??

Thanks

Anything next to an aisle :)
Even if it means changing your ‘preferred seating’ option to increase your chances. I think I saw a post on these forums recently about new QF paid seating. Be almost worth paying to get an exit row I reckon.

Thanks for the reply. My daughter is only 13 so we wont be able to go for an exit row unfortunately. Will try for an aisle though

There are a couple of seat pairs by the windows at the very back of the aircraft. I would try to get one of those.

“j”. LOL. I have done long haul economy, and IMHO its a young persons game. Anything with leg room has got to be a good bet

Yes 'J' would be awesome (not happening though, unfortunately).
I might be able to get a couple of lounge passes for lhr at least

Buy 3 for 2 ie comfort seat request, $$$ yes, but at least no one is sharing the 3 seats, and a bit of protection from arm rest hoggers or leg spreaders.
I certainly would look into it, if I were doing thus odyssey.

Thanks, I'll look into that

Think the list or thread is down page 1 or 2.
I hate people who hog arm rests, had a man who did that for an hour 25 CHC - AKL few days ago, I was pushed against the window.
Because a lot of things can happen on a plane, esp if you have to share space, while people are asleep, ideally best to buy whole row, bad of me to say it.

My impression - not having sat in them - is that the 787 narrows significantly toward the rear resulting in not only the removal of the third window-side seat but also a discernible narrowing of the aisle itself. With the increased sway of the aircraft further back, I suspect you're more likely to be bumped in to - either by traffic going back to the galley to get a snack or FAs walking backwards/forwards and particularly with trolleys.

TBH Having flown LHR-PER-MEL in Y earlier this year, I'm really not a fan of the 787 Y seat. I find it uncomfortable and particularly difficult to sleep in compared with - say - the A380 Y seat (is it really that different?). So much so, if I have to do LHR-MEL or even LHR-PER again, I'd look to use either the QF2 service via SIN or even a QF codeshare on EK whose A380 and B777 Y seats I have no issue with sleeping in.

Other's views doubtless differ .... ???

Regards,

BD

I'm actually flying on to BNE. Would prefer via SIN but the Perth flight means I can leave uk on a Thurs and be home on the Fri evening, rather than the Saturday morning (which is important).
Also limited by the fact that I will be using points (Classic Rewards). Currently have EK booked from BNE to Dublin on the way over but need to leave from LHR or Gatwick coming home

You were in the window seat? I thought the general philosophy was the middle seat got both armrests...to make up for the ...middle seat! Window gets window armrest and ...aisle gets aisle armrest... No?

My main expectation for economy long hauls is just to get there and recover later.
I keep expectations low, eg that it will be roughly on time and the people nearby are reasonable and have similar expectations. After hundreds of flights I can only think of a few occasions when obnoxious individuals have spoiled that. That was when some zen / meditation, or a mild sleeping pill, can be useful.
