Wow. lots of good tips and info for bus and train. Thanks guys!!
The National Express tip helped me find the right website and timetable

I will definitely avail myself of the lounge, and then emerge to see what time suits either.
I guess if I miss a bus (7:30am, 9:15am, 10:45, 12:15) and can't be bothered waiting so long, and feel energetic enough then I can go on an adventure on the train system :)

Cheers!

As for sleeping on the plane - I stayed away though the first leg, meaning that I was zonked by 2am when the flight leaves Singapore. Got a nice 9 hours before breakfast and arrival into LHR. Didnt really experience any jet lag taking that approach, but everyone is different.

This approach works for me for daytime departures ex-Aust via SE Asia to EU. Do not sleep until after departure from SIN/BKK etc.

Doesnt work for QF29 as it's a near midnight departure ex-MEL.

Re your Bournemouth travel. I usually catch the National Express bus from Heathrow. I used it last month and traffic was pretty good, the bus was new and not crowded so it was easy to doze off - you'll certainly be woken up at the B'mouth Terminus. The price is also pretty reasonable, cheaper than I could get on the train and no need to have an extra change which is not good when you are feeling tired and have luggage.

Enjoy your trip.

Have only done this trip some years ago but quickest way to Bournemouth was an express Bus/coach direct from LHR to Reading Station and pick up an express train from Reading, saves a trip back into London Waterloo Stn and the hassles of getting to Waterloo, check National Rail website for timetable
