Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I’m points club ordinaire, and didn’t receive the survey. At least not yet.

Would be nice if they tailored the offering to members’ status levels and the bonuses complemented status perks; plenty would have both points club and status, and there’s not much value in things like free lounge access if you already have it.

The only things of any value to me are the token SCs for reward flights and the bonus points for hotel bookings. Things like 5% off points required to buy a toaster still don’t look like value. My net benefits are close to zero as I already requalify through flying on revenue fares and Qantas hotels keeps blocking payments with my credit cards and I’m over them.

Appreciate the design is for those who don’t have status through flying of course. That might be influencing their choice of survey recipients.

cheers skip

Points Club Plus member here. The current program benefits are a huge let down. I don’t see why anyone would chase a higher level for more benefits they probably already have.

They need to offer more status credits.
There is nothing much in the program that makes me want to chase Points Club membership. Status Credits for reward flights is the only thing that really appeals to me in the current programme, but as I'm currently based in Europe I am not able to take advantage of this.

I agree that any further options for earning Status Credits would make Points Club more attractive.

I suspect that Qantas are looking at ways to try to generate as much revenue as possible in the short term.

Such a level would encourage more $$$ from points club member.

This to go with points purchases having an up to 50% bonus promotion and 3 pp$ bonus on purchase of gift vouchers.

At the level of spend required to hit that many points, I don't think status credits are that important. Points Club, after all, is really geared at rewarding those who don't, and presumably won't, ever have status. Otherwise, what use is a Qantas Club membership or some lounge passes?
The discount on wine is something I value. I have deliberately sought to achieve point club plus membership earlier than I may have gotten to that point to secure this benefit.
I can see the value in a percentage discount on wine, and a slightly higher one at that for the next level, but I cannot see the value in a single $250 voucher for a discount on wine! Especially if you have transferred 800k points to Qantas, the equivalent of a ~$640,000 spend from a credit card!! The two values don't equate... spend $640k/year and get a single $250 voucher? No thanks. Spend $640k/year and get an ongoing 20% off marked prices (Points Club Plus at 10%)? Maybe, if the wine is what you're after.

I guess there are probably cheaper ways to get to the points total, but purely from credit card spend it's an astronomical amount of dollars.

Points Club Plus member. The current program offers almost zero value to me as a LTG. The only thing that I get any value out of is the 10% Wine discount and free shipping. I have responded to many surveys in recent months bemoaning the zero benefit to LTG members and this survey was interesting. I opined that the points earning requirements were too high and onerous with the possible exception of the 1 million points of "activity".
It does look like it targets business owners and SME's as putting company spend on AmEx (where possible) the 800k/900k levels can be reached.

Priority access to reward seats is probably something people earning a million points per year would value.
Agreed .... although is that a zero-sum proposition?

Do WP/WP1s really want to share that privilege?🤣

I fall into this category, ie earning a million+ per year.

I am also a WP1 based on flying and no I do want to share/ erode any of the so called or what is left of the published WP1 benefits.

I also got a Points Club survey, but as I'm only a regular "Points Club" member my questions were different. They wanted to know which benefits I valued, and what it would take to convince me to go for Points Club Plus. They also asked if there are any benefits I thought they should add to the program.

Yup. Same for me. Essentially 'how can we get you to spend an extra $200,000 to give you a $400 Qantas club membership?'.

(I think they answered their own question.)

Exactly. I told them that as I'm already a Gold member, the additional benefits of Points Club Plus are too marginal for me to even consider going for it.

Thanks for your feedback.

You told us you wanted more unattainable benefits and we’re pleased to deliver you this wonderful enhancement... ;)

I disagree, I earn around 2m points on cards a year and very rarely pay for flights, the majority are in J/F. I love the free Qantas club membership for the odd Y or Jetstar flight I am forced to make, SC rollover now that SC are earned on points bookings and the associated additional redemption flights and priority that QC members get. Ive already reached silver and i’ll more than likely reach gold based on the benefits.

Wasn't that the point of Points Club though? To give benefits to those that earned points on the ground, but didn't fly so much?

It sounds like you're exactly the kind of person this program was designed for. :)

It's really difficult to know who the program was designed for - that's the problem - the benefits are so meh.

I suspect it was not aimed at Longrass who seems to earn stacks of points without need of any additional incentives. It is not aimed at people who fly a lot as the benefits of status are far greater than through Points Plus. It is not aimed at people who fly only on the occasional family holiday as there are not enough lounge passes for a family.

Maybe it is not so much an incentive to earn points as a lure to entice wealthy people to use their other products - i.e. you must buy some Qantas wine to make use of the voucher; you must fly Qantas on that domestic flight to make use of your lounge pass...
