That is very cool, and it turned out really well.

(And I thought I had way too much spare time! )

Luckily there wasn't a little Lego Ralph Fiennes on the plane. :p:p

The model looks great.

As a fan of lego, and I use to build model planes with my lego all the time (atleast try to), this is awsome. Well done Ryan.

and here I was thinking it was a kit I could buy

great work though:cool:

Before I viewed the article I was going to suggest Lego might use his design for an actual product, but I don’t think so anymore. Still, very cool model, amazing what you can do with lego!

Snakes? Snakes! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But otherwise real good job! Even the seat pitch is accurate :p

Hey thats an awesome model.. I like the fold down tables on the Y seats too.. Snakes on a plane too..

Great job !!!

Great attention to details, even different seats in different classes.

It would make an awesome kit to purchase, if I could afford it.

For $5700 AUD you can go on a 39,000 mile R.T.W, which would you prefer?

I know my first choice;)

Looks like Qantas has finally come to the party for this guy - and well deserved, too.

Lego A380 Qantas superjumbo model takes to the skies

A Melbourne man who built a Lego model of the world's largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380, will be escorting his creation on board the real deal next month.

Qantas has offered to fly Ryan McNaught and his Spirit of Australia model to the US on board a Qantas A380 to attend the world's premier Lego convention, Brickworld.

Bit of a backflip given their initial reluctance:

A380 superjumbo made of Lego: 'big nerd's' dream

Despite flying the flag for the Spirit of Australia brand, Mr McNaught said he would probably be flying Virgin to the US.

"Qantas are not interested one iota," he said.

Cheers, and for the record, Ralph and Lisa Robinson did make an appearance in it, but not during public show  and in an MA 15+ timeslot :)

Once i got hold of the right person at QF they were really supportive in helping me get it Stateside, so looking good, nice one QF :)

I am going to blog the journey of getting it over there, and its flying over on an A380 so thats a great start :)

Hi Gang,

Yeah, QF really came through for me, got me to LA in a couple of weeks :) then flying AA to Chicago for the big show :)

I'll make sure i do a trip report for everyone, its going to be a lot of fun, well except for the bit of sitting in my hotel room rebuilding all the bits that break during transit :)

Everyone here has been a great help, such great advice, this trip involves family weddings, conventions, Lego and a status run all in the one trip!

Also im not sure on the etiquette here or not, but i have some Mini QF A380's made out of Lego that i sold to people when i showed off the big one for the first time to raise funds for the trip. Im taking the leftovers over to the USA to sell, but if anyone wants one id be happy to. But before i post details i dont want to break any forum rules. so let me know if its ok to post here or not.

Cheers

Ryan

No problem - you can post the details. Strictly speaking, this is a commercial post and wouldn't usually be permitted.... but I think all AFFers will agree to this exception! :)

Have a great trip and looking forward to your TR.
