Got this today

The Leading Hotels of the World would like to make this year’s travel even better for you with a new exclusive rewards program.

Beginning January 1, you will earn one complimentary night at any Leading Hotel for every five stays completed by December 31, 2010 (regardless of when the reservation was made).

I’ve never heard of this club, do they have many hotels in Australia? I couldn’t find a list of brands or chains on their website (but I’m shaped so didn’t have the time to let everything load), do they represent smaller groups only?

It's a bit of eclectic mix of properties, including independent hotels.

In Australia, they include
Hayman - Great Barrier Reef
Blue Sydney - A Taj hotel - Sydney
Wolgan Valley Resort - Lithgow
The Langham - Melbourne

Expensive hotels only on the list....

Given their target market, this is hardly a surprise. Their highest membership has a US$2000 annual fee, but somehow their offer of 30000 Miles & More points didn't entice me to upgrade to thst level :p

The corporate rate we get at the Blue is comparable to the Holiday Inn we used to stay at (but it is a very good corporate rate). It doesn't seem very generous requiring five stays (rather than nights) to earn a free night, and needing to stay at a minimum of two properties makes it useless to me.

We have been a member of the Leaders Club now for several years, (standard membership zero dollars.)
Every stay in every hotel we have been upgraded by at least 2 levels at each hotel we have stayed, and complimentary bottle of champagne (Veuve,Moet or Roederer normally) and fruit etc.
Admittedly it has only been a few hotels Blue in Sydney, Palazzo Versace in Gold Coast and the Santiburi in Koh Samui.
The team at Leading Hotels reservations here in Oz are fantastic as well and they tend to contact the GM and Guest relations directly when making a booking, consequently the upgrades.
Well recomended with great hotels all over the world.

I was speaking to my LHW agent in Sydney last week and yes there is a major shake-up regarding the Leaders Club for 2011.There are now only 2 tiers Acess Level $100 and Unlimited Level $1200.
We were very fortunate to be comped Unlimited Level :p as we are flying round the world in June/ July and have booked all our hotels through LHW.
As a result we have been already guaranteed upgrades on all our bookings.
Many thanks to the LHW team Sydney.

Congrats excell on being comped.

Have you found the Australian based phone agents to be helpful with bookings etc? I haven't used them to date and am undecided about renewing my membership.

The LHW team in Australia are fantastic. Nothing is to much trouble for them. Always helpful and on the ball as to benefits, privileges and specials. It appears most of them have been in the industry for years in one form or another and seem to know someone at every hotel to ensure upgrades. We went to Hayman in October and were put in Penthouse suite, and then went to Samui in December and where given best villa in the resort etc. They really are a fantastic team.
