We are travelling from PER to KUL, then onto HKT in mid September. Naturally, booked with AirAsia. Being our first visit to the LCCT Terminal, we were wondering if AirAsia has allowed ample time between change-over flights at LCCT. Arrive at 0510 from PER and depart to HKT at 0725.

Will we have time for a quick snack?

Furthermore, is it the case of collecting our luggage on arrival and carrying it through to the HKT departure area, which according to the LCCT website is all it involves.

It depends, if AirAsia have placed everything onto one ticket (specifically one PNR - Passanger Name Record) then yes, you should have enough time.

However given they are a LCC it's more than likely they haven't thus if anything goes wrong, eg delayed leaving PER, winds are going against you etc and your not on one PNR, or it takes longer for your bags to be given back to you than expected and you don't make check-in in KUL then you may end up missing out on your KUL - HKT flight and you may have to purchase a new ticket which may be very expensive.

I wouldn't have thought that Air Asia would have ticketed this as a connecting flight more as 2 separate tickets.

With that in mind I wouldn't be comfortable with that connection time as if things do go wrong it could get awfully expensive for you.

Just checked it out definitely 2 separate tickets, meaning you'd have to collect your checked in luggage, clear customs and check in for the HKT flight.

I echo my sentiments that I wouldn't be comfortable, and that your main worry would be re-checking in etc before you worry about a snack at the LCCT.

I can't help you with how long this may take as I've only ever used MH at the main terminal.

*if anyone can correct me I'd be more than happy

From reading other trip reports through the LCCT on Air Asia it's probably an acceptable connection time if everything goes to plan.

You may want to book a night at the Tune Hotel as a back up plan in case you get stranded, I hear it fills up pretty quickly when the D7 flights run late!

From my experience AirAsia are generally pretty good with transferring you free of charge to the next connecting flight if your first flight with them is delayed and its their fault. No guarantees though as they are not obligated to do so in the first place. Having said that I've flown MEL-KUL several times and it was on time everytime. Immigration should be pretty quick that early in the day. Check in online for the HKT flight before you leave!! You can have a snack after checking in. Connection's a bit tight but you should be ok all things going well.

My D7 flights have basically all been on time. Normally it's quite quick to go through immigration and baggage at KUL LCCT, but the 3 times I was there in the last month were all horrendous - 45mins+ through immigration which means your bags will be on the floor somewhere in the claim area.

Plenty of good cheap food available (go to the food garden past the busses for RM5 good meals), or if not just get the onboard meals - they fill a hole and are cheap (cheaper than the airport shops for things like chocolate! RM4).
