All this chopping and changing is giving me a head ache. My next trip through LAX will be in September. Who knows what it will be by then at the rate they are going. Unless I decide to fly with Air NZ where hopefully I will still have access to *A.

Flying LAX-SYD in business class as a Platinum VFF, should I be visiting the Etihad First & Business Class Lounge or the Emirates Lounge?

First time through LAX without access to *A lounge so had the choice between EY or EK lounge. Personally, I chose EK because the EY one seemed several times smaller and quite cramped.

Further to the pics Denali uploaded, food was excellent in the EK lounge and they also have self-serve Veuve

Only problem with the EK lounge was the wi-fi was so slow it was almost unusable and tethering on AT&T was not much better in that part of the terminal.

Out of curiosity does the EK lounge have an a la carte offering or is it just the buffet? I am curious why most people seem to prefer the EK lounge over the EY one, the photos I have seen make it look like the EY lounge may actually be a nicer space with better food options.

Other than the Emirates First Class lounges at Dubai airport I know of no EK lounges where "a la cart" is generally available.

Yeah as serfty said its just the buffet. The reason I walked straight past the EY lounge was that it was at total capacity. You can see through to inside as you walk past. There were people and luggage everywhere and it just seemed completely cramped whereas the EK lounge is bigger and had much fewer people. At least that was the case at ~7.30pm on a Tuesday night.

Due to availability and need, I made a booking on VA6 for next year.

It will be interesting to find if they have rectified the lounge situation by then.

I do note it's an 11:15am departure from LAX, so it could be intersesting.

If nothing else may be able to wangle SkyClub access and use bus for T2/T3 airside connection.(Although if desperate I could use a United Club pass via my Hyatt connection.)

I like the idea of a mid day departure from LAX. At least you get to enjoy the cabin a little bit. The night departure, I just go to sleep for about 10hrs, didnt leave my seat once.

Having done over 30 evening departures from LAX across the pacific, I found the best for meis to stay awake for 3-4 hours.

After all, you are departing early evening in Oz.

just to reconfirm

if we are on AIR NZ flight number flying on our Velocity number we get access so *A however if we are on a Singapore Air flight with our VA number who is also a *A member we have no lounge access at all correct?

You'd think you would still be able to access the *A lounge in this case but this only highlights the inadequacy of not being in an alliance.

I used to enjoy the star lounge at like 4pm onwards.. I was either stuffed from flying the day of departure domestically or checked out of hotel around lunch time.

On Sunday I was in LAX and just went to Etihad at about 4.30pm and then at 6.30pm over to Emirates..Only had about 25 people in the EK lounge I reckon
