Hubby and I are off to LA on 3rd March (A380) 11.30am from Mel and returning 24th March. As we are only Bronze FF we don't have lounge access and have decided that we wont join the QC this year because of the cost as we only fly once or twice a year. I looked at Priority Pass as an option but I believe you can also buy a one day pass for the Admirals lounge at LAX, can anyone advise is that correct and if so I presume the lounge is located once you go through Security. Cost appears to be $50 (US) a person - is it worth it, are there any other costs once you enter? Our flight from LAX does not leave until about 11.30pm on the 24th so quite possibly we will have 3 or 4 hours sitting at the airport. Is the Admirals Club Lounge the same one that Qantas Club members use too
Thanks in advance.

For the sake of a one off access for $50US p/p I don't think it is worth it, and as you say its not worth joining the QC for a year due to costs..same situation. I don't think many of the AA lounges have much to offer so spend the money on something nice in the terminal. I know as a QC member you get drink chits, but I suspect you wouldn't get them for one day access and an expensive way to have a shower.

I personally would not buy the day pass. The main issue is that pretty much all food and drink needs to be paid for - there is tea and coffee and biscuits I think.

It was pretty busy when I have been there but I have never missed out on a seat.

I would spend the money on a nice feed in the airport and stick to your ipod/whatever for entertainment.

If you are flying QF from LAX to MEL, you are likely to be on QF94 which departs from TBIT. The AC there is a joint QF/BA/AA lounge, and IIRC there is no charge for drinks or food. However, it is cramped and generally a dingy place.

The only thing that might make it worthwhile is the hell-hole alternative of sitting in the TBIT concourse for 3 hourse waiting for your flight.

2 alternatives:
1. Arrive at the airport as late as possible and have a nice dinner in LA - try Marina del Rey or Venice for easy access to the airport

2. Cross security into terminal 4 and spend the $50 pp on a nice dinner and drinks at one of about 4 restaurants and bars airside there. Then catch the free airside shuttle to TBIT about an hour before boarding.

If, on the other hand, you are actually on QF26 to Melbourne, you will be departing from T4. Not worth $50 pp when you can have more fun at the bar downstairs for the same price. The AC at T4 charges $10 or so per drink, and >$10 for a meal from the fridge on top of the admission price. Not worth it IMO.

Does that refer to the new lounge that opened last year? The OW lounge wont be able to be accessed under the $50 AC day pas program.

No... I was last in TBIT just over 12 months ago, so if there is a new lounge then ignore what I said about TBIT!

I'd be very pleased if there was one!

- maybe someone from here will be able to help you out and save you $100!

The TBIT Oneworld Lounge has been open since October 2008.

There is no "Admirals Club" there - AA operate no flights from TBIT.

In that case my comments on the TBIT lounge stand - one of the worst in the system. And if you can't even pay for it then your choice becomes even easier. Good luck!

What flight are you on?

Hi Will

Yes we are on QF94 that departs at 23.05pm, luckily I paid for an extra night in LA so have the room until the next day, its just we will need to get there 3 hours before hand to check the luggage in, so plans at this stage are to stay at our hotel till about 7.30pm and then make our way out to the airport. Thanks for your advice Noreen

Does anyone actually pay US50 per person to access the Admirals Club for a day? Considering you need to pay extra for food or drink it does not appear worth it.

If it was me I would be looking for a small bar in the terminal and have a drink or two before the flight. I don't know what it is but I find people watching whilst having a cold drink more appealing.

JohnK,

We are in agreement once again.

Hold on a sec !

QF 94 flies out of TBIT.

There is no AA lounge in TBIT.

There is a OW lounge at TBIT, which is your only option of flying QF94. AA pass will not apply there.

Passengers who qualify for lounge access have access to the OW lounge, which is relatively new and is quite nice (lot better than any AA lounge). I use the F lounge, but go through the J lounge to getto the showers, and it has never been packed, particularly if you're there 2+ hours before your flight.

If you are contemplating the day pass (x2) anyway, you might as well buy the QP membership (x1) - although I am assuming you would be renewing as opposed to buying from scratch. You can then both get in (1 member + guest) and you can use it flying out of Oz as well.

cheers

DTM1,

Look at post #4 above.

JohnK's and my comments were a bit OT and were simply about whether one would/should pay for AA access (where/when available)
