Latest information about 28 degrees card

Email today that the card design has changed.
They've gone portrait with no embossing.

Not going to send a new card until the current one expires (mid-2023 for me)

I do like the design of the new card. I assume the benefits/fees etc. are not changing.

Another card I use overseas is my Coles MasterCard. Same deal as the 28 Degrees, owned by the same bank.

This is not the case any more - the Coles card is owned by Citibank.

So any covid benefits with the card and domestic flight bookings to be aware of?
Already confirmed delay pass

Payment by bank transfer is currently unavailable, leaving only direct debit or sending a cheque by mail as the only fee-free options.

I sure hope that this is only temporary. If they're going to make it so difficult to pay off your balance, I will stop using this card.

Can you clarify what you mean by ”Bank Transfer is Currently Unavailable” please Matt?
I just checked on the App & the Website, and was able to use Bank Transfer method on both platforms.
(I notice that nearly a day has passed since your post, so maybe it was just a temporary issue…)

It does seem to have been a temporary issue. It’s working again now.

I guess the mention of cash & preload in your first post confused things.

In the past it was a great way of getting foreign currency while overseas.

You can still use it for overseas purchases at one of the best exchange rates around as there are no forex fees.

On January 1st 2014 they began charging a fee for cash withdrawals.

So while it was once an inexpensive way of getting cash while overseas - not any more.

I wonder if like in the past, you can add transfer money to the card (less than your current credit limit) and essentially use that as a credit card funds? (i.e. if your credit limit is 1000, can you transfer 500 to it, thereby having 1500 to use overseas?)

My latest 28Degree MC statement has interest charges even though I paid the total balance on time and the only purchases during the month were a couple of hotel bookings in Europe. Don't these qualify as interest free purchases any more?

That doesn’t sound right. There will be no point keeping this card If they’ve removed interest free days.

I’ll confirm when my next statement is issued.

They do! (no change)

We’re any of your previous balances late? Interest charges will generally appear for two statements… the one initially accruing the interest AND the one after for any residual amounts.

I only keep the 28D card for OS purposes and have only used it for a few transactions since the end of Feb. I paid the total statement balances for these well before the due date so, as I see it, the only way interest would be due would be if they are now treating hotel bookings as a cash advance. I've queried it with Latitude and waiting on a response, but curious to know if others have had a similar experience.

I’ve never had an interest charge but I have a DD setup for the total balance each month. Currently giving mine a workout in the UK (and some pre-departure bookings) with no issues with the previous statement.

Edit: did you do an ATM withdrawal? Apparently you used to be able to put the card in positive balance and then get cash out OS fee free. That went some time ago.

I booked multiple o/s hotel stays with 28D for my recent trip. None accrued interest.

No, just a couple of online payments to booking.com
Hopefully my charges were just an error. Reassuring that others haven't had interest charges on accommodation.
I won't book anything else till I get clarification from Latitude

Has anyone used their 28D card for travel insurance, including COVID coverage, where you need to spend $1000 or more on flights and you get a year's travel insurance? Looks like a good deal?

Took a while but 28D have reversed the interest charges with apology so the status quo on purchases is unchanged

The $1000 flight purchases to qualify has the drawback that it hjas to be for a single purchase.
The bar is set much lower for the ANZ Black card - only need to spend $250 on any OS travel related purchase

This is true, but if a punter only has the 28Degrees Credit card then he isnt a particulary savvy traveller (ie a FF points hunter) so that $1000 aint exactly much of a hurdle for him.

.... not to mention this also covers Covid19 related claims.
