Today's LA1300 for AKL and SCL took off from SYD at 0947. it should have been off blocks at 0700, so that makes it about two and a half hours late. LA may be lesser known but it receives some good write ups from travel writers (albeit that sometimes their tickets are paid for by the airline, something I would prefer never occurred if travel writers are 'reviewing' an airline, train, cruise, package tour or hotel.

Firstly, LAN's flight from SYD-AKL-SCL is LA800, not LA1300. Secondly, it is scheduled to depart Sydney at 9:30am, so if it departed at 09:47 that is 17 minutes late... not noteworthy at all.

LAN does already has a bit of a reputation though for being unreliable on the AKL-SYD-AKL flights as flights are often delayed and sometimes cancelled. In most cases, customers are just rebooked onto Qantas if the flight is cancelled outright, as far as I'm aware.

mattg, my apologies, but as it turned out, both flights were late: (extract from www.sydneyairport.com.au International departures for 28 December 2014):

General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Sunday 10 May 2015's LA800 (which is also QF321) was cancelled between SYD and AKL while the onward leg from AKL that is timetabled at 1445 is not departing until 2130 tonight for SCL. I assume that any passengers ex Australia will have been accommodated on a QF Jetconnect flighht across the Tasman.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Today's LA800 departed SYD 53 minutes late at 1023 and shuld arrive AKL at 1540, 55" behind time. However the continuing (same flight number) service to SCL ex The (second) Harbour City has been delayed in its forecast departure from the usual 1615 to 2155 tonight ex AKL for SCL.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800 was cancelled today between SYD and AKL. It has been rescheduled to depart from AKL at 0930 on Saturday 23 May instead of 1615 this afternoon (Friday 22 May) and hence will not arrive SCL until 0550 on Saturday morning instead of its usual Friday afternoon arrival.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Noticed a LAN 787 at SYD at about 4pm today - well after the scheduled ~9am departure time. Turns out that today's LA800 SYD-AKL-SCL was delayed by about 7 hours.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA801 departed SCL on Sunday 20 September three hours and two minutes late at 0322 and following the timetabled stop in AKL is forecast to be an hour and 35 minutes late into SYD at 0930. The return LA800 back to AKL and SCL is not expected to depart until 1110, an hour and 40 minutes late. As other flights (so far) do not seem to be affected by the Australian Border Force strike (0700 - 0900 in SYD this morning), this flight may not be too (but we do not yet have a complete picture as there are many departures between 0900 and 1000.)

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800 departed SCL 92 minutes late at 0052 on Sunday 27 September 2015 and arrived AKL at 0538 on Monday 28 September, 68 minutes behind time. Its onward leg to and from SYD was cancelled.

LA801 today (Monday 28) is expected to be delayed an hour from 1750 to 1850 in departing AKL, presumably awaiting connecting passengers using QF JetConnect flight(s) across the Tasman. One wonders how QF suddenly finds seats for 200 passengers.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

They use AirNZ too; I was on an NZ flight to AKL on the 19th when LAN had cancelled their service that morning. Catering in J was all mixed up with a tonne of off-menu dishes and they mentioned more than once that they'd only been expecting 6 pax in J on what was a fully loaded 767.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Katy, that tells us LAN shops around for whatever seats are available. Better than leaving passengers stranded. Perhaps they initially go to QF, then EK, followed by NZ/VA and finally if running that day CI.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA801 ex AKL and SCL did not arrive in SYD this morning until 0843, 48 minutes late. The Monday 5 October 2015 departure back eastwards has been delayed from 0945 to 1035, but times on the QF website for AKL and SCL have yet to be updated.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800 from SYD to AKL (and on to SCL) had been delayed in its Australian departure from 1130 to an anticipated 1510 hours on Sunday 29 November. LA801 from AKl and SCL arrived at 1251 today, three hours and 36 minutes behind time. One would think thay "they" could get the return flight out from SYD a little quicker, but the revised departure time indicates that this is not the case.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Due to LAN Airlines' tieup with oneworld, there is a reasonable chance that some AFF members will be familiar with it already, or will travel on it in the future.

LA801 (which is also QF322) departed SCL an hour and 27 minutes late at 0132 on Sunday 29 November, arriving AKL at 0614, so a good performance in reducing the deficit timewise to 59 minutes. It was then meant to depart at 0735 NZ time but did not until 1335 so a very long enforced stay, with SYD arrival at 1450 on Monday 30 November, five hours and 35 minutes behind time.

The return flight LA800 departed from SYD at 1636 instead of 1150 today, arriving AKL at 2135 a couple of hours ago in lieu of the scheduled 1645 hours. It is expected to depart the NZ harbour City at 2355 tonight instead of the timetabled 1835, arriving in SCL at a forecast 1915 instead of 1355 hours. A long trip, with a further difficulty being how connecting passengers from SCL to elsewhere in South America might miss the 'last' evening flight(s) on the 'thinner' (less frequent) routes.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA801 departed SCL 21 minutes late at 0026 on Tuesday 8 December and is expected to arrive AKL at 0451, 24 minutes early on Wednesday 9 December. However the 'tag flight' is then not expected to depart for SYD until 1045, three hours and 10 minutes late, arriving at 1225 rather than 0915. Wednesday 9's LA800 should then depart at 1415 (two and three quarter hours behind time), maintaining that lateness through AKL and on to the Chilean major population centre for a 1640 hours arrival.

I am guessing that the AKL delay is to do with adhering to minimum crew rest times as a recent inbound flight was late. Siestas are an afternoon occurrence not a morning one!

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800 from SYD to AKL did not depart on 22 December until 1558, just under four and a half hours late, arriving at 2044, three hours and 59 minutes behind time. An 1815 hours same day SCL arrival is predicted, four hours and 20 minutes behind time.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA801 on 5 January departed SCL at 0248 rather than 0005 and after the AKL intermediate stop should arrive in SYD on Wednesday 6 at about 1110, an hour and 555 minutes late. LA800 back will also be delayed.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800 on Thursday 7 January is delayed in its departure from SYD for an expected three hours and 10 minutes (to 1440 hours) for AKL and then SCL.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

LA800, the 1130 SYd - AKL on Friday 15 january left at 1226 with AKL arrival being at 1724, 39 minutes behind time. Departure was expected to be 40 minutes late at 1915 with SCL arrival at 1435, also 40 down.

Re: General LAN Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Friday 15 January's LA801 (0005 ex SCL) terminated upon arrival in AKL 26 minutes early at 0449 on Saturday 16. The AKL - SYD - AKL extension has been cancelled (LA800 ex SYD this morning.)
