End of an era with the last 727 to takeoff last night from SYD :(:(:(

OMG!!

I have not been on one of those for more than 20 years!!

Who was flying that?? Passenger or freight?

DHL Freight to AKL!

I’m sure I saw one just like that in SYD the other day, though maybe it’s a similar a/c type. Can’t recall if it was DHL or not.

The 727 was the first jet flight I ever had. It was between MEL and OOL. I flew on an AA 727 perhaps five years ago from MIA to DFW. Have to say it was the quietest jet I had experienced until the A380.

The 727 was pretty much my favourite passenger jet. The extra engine was also a bonus over when compared to the current generation of twins:!:

There is still a 727 at BNE but she is not going anywhere!

Used for training (presumably not spares if there's no 727s flying in Aus). Or is it an ex-spares frame?

Sad, love the 727, pity they couldnt be updated to quieter spec.

Weren't they advertised at one stage (1970s) as the "whisper jet"? Ironic really.

A 727 ran off the runway "slightly" on landing some 5½ years ago.

There's one parked over near the old international terminal as well.

It's even showing on Google: bne airport - Google Maps

Two different 727's, 9L-LEK ran off the runway while VH-TBS is the one still at BNE, you can actually see both in this shot:

TBS is an old ANA bird delivered in 69 as RMS

Where they the 'hijackers special' after the the bloke jumped out the back door of a United plane between Denver and Portland with $10M ? My memory a bit vague now on the details.

Made sure to do a flight on a United one about 1997 flying Boise to Chicago. Good flight. Made sure I asked for a seat at the back so I could check out the rear stairs and the little window in them.

Good planes for regional airports in not needing jetways or wheelie stairs.

I was going to post that the 727 in question was in Cairns being stripped, sadly it was broken down over the last two days:

I hope the herc that was beside it has a better fate, at least in TSV we are being graced with the odd UH1 flying overhead thanks to the Kiwis being in town, wop wop wop :)

I am always sad to see an aircraft being broken up, even though I often complain about the age of those I fly on and their condition, I was looking at the two Neptunes today at TSV thinking about how good it would be to hear those engines turn!

He lowered the back airstairs mid flight and jumped. No one knows what happened to him. Either way they bolted all airstairs on 727's soon after so it couldn't happen again as most of them where operating in and out of airports with aerobridges \ ground stairs anyway.

Serfty, isn't that the same as being "a little bit pregnant"?

I friend of mine flies for DHL based in AKL & they used to fly a lot of horses across the Tasman.

Wonder if there's still DHL 727's to/from other Australian cities still?

No more 727s, the first post was talking about the last DHL 727 service into SYD, now operated by a chartered 757, Labors noise laws grounded them for ever.
