If you're with a bunch of guys, my recommendation would be the Planet Hollywood. Bit of a party atmosphere. Otherwise, for something quiter, go with the recommendations above.

Validates my views :)

With a group of guys, I'd say Planet Hollywood. Possibly MGM too. Always loads of young people there and their nightclubs are hotness!!

If travelling with 'the boys' these would be my picks.

Cheers Penegal,

Reno was always our hangout so I'm more familiar there......

We were shattered when the Heineken and Hot Dog from Harrah's went up from $1 to $1.50! Devastating!

Had 4 night in Aug. last at MGM signature suite tower 3 paid $145 per night, large rooms with all amenities and quiet, about a 10min walk to front entrance, MGM has nice bars and is central etc.

Limewood, what was the sofa like in the suite?

Is it "sleepable"? (I know it's not a proper sofa-bed).

Does that mean you are getting the short straw and sleeping on the sofa?

I guess it really depends how much you plan to drink :p

Wife says it was a proper double sofa bed and enough linen provided for it, we didn't use it as only us in suite.

Too late for Hangover 3 auditions. They are already filming it there.
Closed the street in front of Caesars, not the strip, for people to parachute onto at night last week.
On a side note what are peoples opinions of resort fees?
Was promised no fees after agreeing to an upgrade by person number 1, on check out a week later
person number 2 denied all knowledge. I am going to tape them next time...

I have no issue with them if there's tangible value. The Bellagio resort fee covers wifi and fitness center access and is far cheaper than paying separately, but it all comes down to value.

I had my own internet, too cold for pool, didnt use gym or spa so didnt need any of it.
I certainly got no value of the $140 extra.
Just make the rooms dearer, sick of this add everything on later In the USA.
However today in Oregon I find there is no sales taxes here??
Gas is 20c gallon cheaper!!

I'm not a fan of resort fees at all. In fact, this is something I've started to blog (complain) about. Whether you get value out of them or not, they are just an excuse to collect further revenue by excluding the amount from their regular room rates. It makes the properties who charge these fees seem cheaper or more competitive than those who don't (in that the latter room rates are all inclusive).

In my opinion they should not be mandatory. What if you don't use the gym or wifi? If the fees were genuine value, guests would have the option to choose one way or the other. Also, some of the justifications for charging them are a joke. EG: Free use of concierge, or free use of pool... I like to joke that, one day, they'll start advertising free toiletries and maid service as a resort fee benefit.

I see resort fees as a bit like an airline's fuel surcharge. To me, fuel is a part of running the aeroplane so should be just another part of the fare. You don't see an 'Engineering surcharge' or a 'Corporate & Governance surcharge' or a surcharge to reflect any other cost associated with running the core of the airline, so fuel should be no different.

Resort fees are similar. If a property has resort facilities that it wants to use to attract people to stay there, then use of those facilities should be incorporated into their base pricing.

Has anyone stayed at the Westin on the Strip? What's it like?

I did not long after it opened, maybe 8-9 years ago. Nice small gaming hotel but rooms are small, paper thin walls, two blocks (a brisk 5 mins) walk to the strip. If this is your first time to Vegas I'd stay at a hotel on the strip.

Personally I LOVE the tackiness and raw history of the flamingo - don't forget this is where it all basically started - nothing screeches Las Vegas like the Flamingo IMHO.

If I am alone - ALWAYS the Flamingo - if I am with Cruiserette well the new flash brash ones get a go.

But if travelling single - god I love the location of Flamingo.

So I am booked into Flamingo for 4 nights arriving Sept 19 this year dep Sept 23 - arrive at about 10pm to check in to my pre-booked / pre-paid GO Room at $120/night and they send me up to my room - this is what I find:
