I purchased a one-way ticket AKL-SYD from the LAN website a few weeks ago and the e-mail mentioned that I need to collect a paper ticket from the issuing office, in this case AKL. I am travelling from SYD the week before to AKL-WLG-CHC on QF.

The LAN booking appears on my QF profile and I can look up the details through Check my trip. I have replied to the e-mail and I received a reply informing me to call a NZ number, which I have not done as yet.

Is the process as simple as turning up to the LAN sales office in AKL airport the Friday before, on my short transit through to CHC, and collect a paper ticket? Will I be questioned at AKL immigration as I don't have proof of a return paper ticket or e-ticket reference? I guess this is not so relevant as half of New Zealand is in Bondi without a return ticket anyway.

John.

Should be that simple, although I have no previous LA experience with their AKL office.

(The last LA flight I booked was on way ex Australia through Zuji, and they sent me the E-Ticket without a problem).

As for immigration, I have only been asked once for onward travel plans. The immigration officer was already suspicious about my intentions anyways - and I didn't have the plans on me either at the time!! Ended up being resolved without having to show my exit plans.

Best you print out the checkmytrip entry. That should be enough to show exit plans if required.

Thanks Mal. Apparently they have office at airport and downtown AKL. I will only be in airport for an 1 hour or so on Friday so hope to be able to pick up paper ticket there. I don't fancy AKL airport LAN office being open at 04:00am the Friday after.

Have printed all my checkmytrip itineraries and have placed them in my travel wallet.

Are you sure the AKL ticket office will be open when you want to visit?

Probably best you call the AKL office on +64 9 977 2233 to check, or alternatively, try the Australian main office: 1 300 361 400. They may have a clue, but also may not know and just refer you to AKL.

If you're visiting Sydney city, you could try and pick up the tickets now by visiting
64 York Street
Sydney, NSW 2000

What's the worst thing they can do ? Tell you to pick them up in NZ??? :)

Oh - and I've gotta ask. How did you book a one way on the Lan website? I tried this ages ago and couldn't find an option ... Just tried again and still couldn't find it!

You can collect the ticket from any LAN office.

I regularly book AKL-SYD-AKL and collect the ticket from the Melbourne LAN office.

If your ticket is paid for, simply front up to any LAN office and show identification and they should print the ticket for you on the spot.

Again AFF comes to the fore, surely the demystification of travel , this thread (in the voice of Yoda!)

I am not sure it will be open between 13:00-14:00 on a Friday. I will probably phone AKL today and ask about my options.

On the return date click on the month field and you will find an option of "One way".

I just asked LAN to mail tickets to me which they were more than happy to do.

I would expect it to be. The address looks like it is a GSA (general service agent) who is an agent for several airlines.

Hi JohnK,
Do you have an Australian passport?
If so you do not need to worry about a return ticket. In fact you can ticket the box saying that you are permenantly immigrating....no need for an application or anything....they let me in:shock: and out and back in repeatedly, although I suspect it is because they like the amount of tax I am contributing to the Govt coffers:evil: but I am currently getting my income from them:D

NZ has same rules as Australia about return tickets. If have Australian or NZ passport then no need for return ticket, if anyone else then must have return ticket.

Yes.

Thanks. Good to know as I wasn't sure how immigration would react. Better be safe than sorry.

Neer even thought about it ... almost all my NZ/Oz trips in the last 2 years have been two one-way bookings. (Last one was QF to AKL for $249 and AirNZ  to MEL for AU$189)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just to clarify. I didn't mean had to buy a round trip but rather you needed to have a valid ticket out of the country that was consistent with your entry rights (ie departure date not too late).

Called the Sydney number and was advised that I purchased a pre-paid ticket. I have no idea why they would use this type of terminology.

Anyway, they do not post out paper tickets so I will make a quick visit into their office in the city sometime before travel and they will print my ticket on the spot.
