LAN SYD-AKL J Special - Good SC earner

Just noticed a new fare with LAN Sydney-Auckland return in J come across my desk, thought it might interest those status runners.

$568 gross plus $130.72 taxes.

I'm no status run expert, but i'd have thought 160 SC's for a $700 outlay in J is a pretty good deal. (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong)

It's travel from today U.F.N. and booked in I class

Nup, that's about $4.40 per SC's - not too shabby for a SWP fare at all.

I see it can be booked online at Flights to South America: Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela from USA and Europe - LAN.com (AU portal)

Note that currently QF NZ have Business class AKL-SYD/BNE/MEL-AKL for NZD1247 (~AUD1000)

Unless i'm failing maths, 44c per SC would make the fare around $70.

I had a close look at this; like any of these LAX fares the OMG o'clock timing is a killer.

That's why it's nice to buy SYD/AKL on LAN in J and the return on QF in Y (two separate tickets). I'm looking at the SYD/AKL leg for early Feb next year. But coming from BNE, it does require the OMG :shock: first flight BNE/SYD to connect.

True, but I'll pay that for the one-way...over having a similarly priced return ticket with a 3.30am (AKL time) wake up for a 6am flight (which can often be delayed or cancelled). That's why I don't risk the return in J on LAN...particularly if I'm coming back to go to work that day.

It always has though, it's always been around the $600 mark where SYD-AKL-SYD has always been over 1k.

It's nice to see them on a more even playing field.

The one-way SYD-AKL books into D bucket; the special fare is in I bucket.

Oddly enough, if you book return, that's pretty much the only way to access the I buckets on SYD-AKL.

In reverse, deal is even better, $500 USD ~ $605 AUD or $3.8/SC

You can also complete a "run" in a day (if you can put up with OMG o'clock, that is). So all you'd have to factor in is positioning flights.

Do you mean AKL international? Open 24 hours last time I was there (May) and had a snooze from when I arrived (~0300) till 0530.

AKL Domestic closes (opens at 6am) but international is 24H - I have slept there dozens of times in the last few years.

At this stage it just states U.F.N. (until further notice) so doesn't look like it'll be ending anytime soon.
