Any advice on the lounges in Santiago? Especially which would be the better choice - Neruda or Mistral. Travelling through there several times in March and April and am QF Platinum.

Not sure if in correct area - first time poster - taken a while - so much info contained here most queries usually answered!! Apologies if this is answered elesewhere.

I go through Santiago a lot.
I'm not good with names, but the best lounge is the one almost at the end of the end of the terminal (opposite gate 19 I think).Turn right when you go through immigration/duty free and head on past the shops and the German style beer keller. Do not go to the first lounge you pass but carry on. The lounge is down a set of stairs and not very well sign posted..
YOu will know you are in the right one if you have the option to go left or right at the desk. There is no difference on either side, but I prefer the right as it has better seating.
The food is OK, but the wine is usually spectacularly good and often it's the same as you will get in J on the flight.
I'll be there on the evening of 9th March if you happen to coincide travel dates.

Thanks for detailed responses Canny man and samh004 - guess once QF stops Buenos Aires flights in March the collective knowledge on SCL will increase. Will try and put a name to the two of them and depending on my energy levels and time available may try to check out AA as well. But sounds as if I will be heading straight down the stairs in the first instance.

No coincidences on this occasion Canny man - not there til mid-March then couple more times before heading home April 9. Thanks again.

This is an accurate description for getting to the better of the two LAN lounges. It's a nice cosy lounge. Whiled away many an hour in it . It has a good shower suite on the left side from the desk.

As you walk towards it from the shops side, the stairs are kind of around behind a pillar or something that makes them and the signage a bit hard to see.

Usually when I've been there, their champagne of choice has been Louis Roederer NV, which I particularly like as an aperitif style.

Spectaculary good wines and good champagne make exploration of other lounges unlikely - won't be back up the stairs until the flights are called. Thanks

Glad to know the standards are being kept for my visit next month.

Don't forget to keep your boarding pass as you will almost certainy have problems getting points credited by LAN.

A cautionary note is always good. However, we used LAN extensively 18 months ago, and no problem at all with points creditting. Perhaps the system has gone downhill since then.

It has gone down hill since then. QF told me that LAN changed their system and they have constant problems. There's another thread about this. I do the route 4 times a year and it's very hit and miss. No problem if you are on a QF codeshare ticket, but if it's straight LAN then beware.

Thanks again canny man. QF over the Pacific but have a number of LAN flights (ticketed separately) within South America so hopefully won't have to chase-up them all up but having the boarding passes is always a good start.

In the lounge now. Can confirm its the Nerudah opposite gate 20.
louis Roederer champagne, some decent reds but disappointing whites. Food a bit below par, various nibbles but nothing like a flagship lounge.

Wi fi pretty fast.

All in all a fairly pleasant way to spend 3 hours, except I'm with my boss so I may have to converse instead of diving into a book and drinking lots of red.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Perfect timing for my trip - thanks!:D The whites don't often concern me but think will be obliged to try the reds. Food and wi-fi comments noted - if it is the best SCL OW has to offer ...... then two out of three aint bad!

Food improved as the night went on. They seem to bring out a fairly wide selection in no particular order. The local salamis are worth looking out for.

Currently in lounge 11am local time. They are just bringing out the alcohol yes Roederer is served! Thanks for the heads up, glad not to be in Admirals club

Good to know the booze is out early. I'll be there on Wednesday at the same time and had oly been there in the evening previously

I'm in the Neruda lounge now. As usual the wine is outstanding (Altair sideral 2006 is to die for) but the whole thing is spoiled by a bunch of overloud Australians.
its amazing the difference in atmosphere from my last visit as these guys loudly give their views on Geelong etc to everybody in the lounge. The few Chileans here are commenting on their crassness, it's not a good look.
i have had to move to another part of the lounge to get away.
i sincerely hope I am not sharing a cabin with them

Canny man, they are probably mining types! God forbid!

On a totally offtopic note, the Avianca lounge in Bogota is improving. I think that Avianca/Taca may prove a decent competition for the LAN South American onslaught. Certainly in the north of the continent their pricing/schedules are better. Just wandering thought....

Wow, I got here at 09:45am and the Roederer was already on ice for me :)

Thanks to this forum, I will enjoy a few sedative drinks prior to my SCL -> SYD on QF28. Directions to the lounge were perfect. Was told by QF to use the Admirals Club, but came straight here instead. :)
