This thread is a place to share tips and recommendations for stopovers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in Malaysia. You can discuss things like:
  • How to get from the airport to the city
  • Things to do (both near the airport and in the city)
  • Where to stay/hotel recommendations (both near the airport and in the city)
  • Your favourite KUL airport lounges
  • Airport facilities such as luggage storage and showers
  • Any other destination-specific tips or "hidden gems" you've discovered that could be useful for someone stopping over

Do you have a great tip that other travellers might find useful when stopping over in Kuala Lumpur? Add your suggestions to this thread, and your advice could make it into an AFF Stopover Guide article!

My main tip is that the Malaysia Airlines Golden lounge in the Satellite terminal is really difficult to find. My main tip is that it is upstairs on the mezzanine level, just above where the Aerotram arrives from terminal 2... If you find the Aerotram stop, look up, and make your way there.

We had Air Asia flights with a short stopover. We opted for the Tunes hotel for the convenience. It was certainly a short walk & check-in was fine and the room comfortable enough for a short stay. As with many of this style of airport hotel things can be noisy with people moving around all the time.
On another visit we stayed in the city at Berjaya Times Square-very easy to get to, great views of Petronas Towers and a good club lounge. At the time of our stay it was well maintained but current reviews suggest there may no be better options in this price range

Always the Traders for us. Great hotel in a great location. The views of the Petronas Towers is stunning and has a pretty decent club lounge

Tip for transiting from Int-Dom in KLIA.
There is a Malaysian Airlines Golden Regional Lounge in the main concourse (not the Satellite one) accessible for international departures.
It is an alternative to the main international lounge in the Satellite terminal.

As an added tip - if arriving on an International flight, and transiting to a Domestic flight (which leave from the main terminal) and you have your bags checked through - you can visit the Regional Lounge BEFORE you clear the internal transit immigration, assuming you have time to kill.

The incentive is that the Domestic Lounge downstairs (after you clear immigration) is a DRY lounge with limited F&B and space.

Visiting the regional Golden Lounge upstairs gives a full food and bar service, more space, better views and good showers.
I have done this several times now, and just explain to the staff that I want to shower and grab a quick bite before going down to clear immigration. Haven't been knocked back yet (usual policy is for transit pax Int-Dom to clear immigration first and use the smaller dry domestic lounge)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
