Compared to other programs, the SQ taxes are quite high for a redemption award (although this is offset by the amount of points for a saver flight - including the extra 15% when booking online).

Has anyone had much experience redeeming with a partner? And if so, what is the availability and taxes like compared to SQ?

i.e. with SQ - Syd to London is around 39k points and taxes of $400 plus in economy saver, whilst Thai Airways partner redemption would 55k in points - but not sure what the taxes would be

Depends who you compare it to. ie QF. MH or BA are similar.

Economy? Basically many programs are not worth redeeming on long haul internationals unless you redeem in business or First. There are specials at present to fly return to Europe for $1100-1300. So pay almost that with points does not stack up.

Partner and *A redemptions via Krisfyer will vary depending on the airline.

ie

Redeeming on VA in Australia is $0 when I have done it.

Thai to Europe was comparable to SQ. Thai has had very good availability and I have booked this when I could not get SQ.

Thai are just as bad. I booked MEL-BKK and SYD-BKK in business the other day, about $325 in fees and taxes for each ticket. SQ flights were more at about $355 but no availability.

Id happily pay +$100 in taxes to fly over SQ any day over TG if availability was the same that is.

You can jump on the United Airlines site. Search for your route and select the 'redeem miles' option. That will give you a pretty comprehensive range of options. You must look for the 'saver' column. If you can find the route you want there, pretty good chance SQ can book it for you.

Disregard the UA mileage and taxes, you'll have to get those from the SQ chart.

Depends on the plane for me. I'll take flat bed over angled (SQ and TG are a mix of both types in/out of Australia) if I can get it any day of the week.

I'll take SQ angled over TG angled with 2-2-2 config for sure. Flew MEL-BKK 2 days ago and really reminded me how dated TGs hard product is.

100% agree there! But I'll take TGs flat over SQ angled. Also unfortunately (or fortunately!) I need to go to Bangkok more than Singapore so TG wins out with the direct flight. But SQ is definitely above TG by a long shot in hard and soft product when compared angle to angle and flat to flat.

Partner redemptions have provide some good options for me where I have needed to travel into Europe to non-SQ destinations such as Athens and Milan.

I consider arriving in Milan - Linate much more preferable than MXP and that extra transit.

Those taxes are ridiculous.

If only TG would bring back the ER 1-2-1 to MEL I'd be really happy!

Yes -SQ really need to upgrade those angled seats. We get the joy of the A330 out of BNE, so no F class. We have to fly to Sydney to get either a flat bed in J or the chance of F . Hoping this may change with the new A350's...

Regardless -I'd still rather fly SQ than TG any day of the week. SQ service is fabulous
