Kogan Mobile - Game Changer? [Gone!]

Looking at Kogan's FB page there is many unhappy people with the entire process.

Time to get number ported from previous carrier and also how long they are staying on hold then having call disconnected.

Also once number has ported actually getting the number connected with Kogan Mobile.

Business customers would not tolerate this.

Coverage doesn't look like it will be as good and data speeds will suffer from what a Telstra Customer gets.

Guys guys guys - settle down - no need to have a caniption here.

I have ordered a Kogan card - no compulsion for you guys to do same - I will post arrival date - YES 10 or 11 days does seem excessive to me also.

I might add here that I purchased a camera from Kogan previous day and was also given 11 day lead time before shipping. Next day received update from Kogan saying camera would be shipped in 5 working days - so 11 days shrunk to 6 - whatever - life will still go on.

As for coverage it is a non issue for our intended use. We are based in Cheltenham Melb - if this card works at all it will be used solely from our office to make outgoing fixed and landline calls only - oh and YES some texting. Data totally irrelevent - coverage irrelevant as it will not leave office / factory / workshop. Porting irrelevent also - if it saves me money then this business could tolerate it.

But thank you everyone who has taken time to post - we all have different wants and needs in this life - and no 2 are the same - I weill report back as to performance if and when it arrives.

Coverage will be the difference but IMHO Kogan pricing will be the winning but customer service of Kogan has been a huge downer

And pricing.

Boost is $40 per month (unlimited Calls/SMS + 3gb data, Next G network (98.5% of Australia population), speed not capped (up to 42Mbps) - *Edit 99.3% coverage

Kogan is $25 per month (unlimited Calls/SMS + 6gb data, 3G network (97% of Australian population), speed limited (to 7Mbts)

Some really good deals coming out to consumers, for once.

Over 99.3% coverage, according to Boost.

Q:What will my coverage on the 3GTelstra Mobile Network be like?

A:Awesome! You will have access to the 3G Telstra Mobile Network which provides coverage for over 99.3 per cent of the Australian population.

Some folks over on Whirlpool have found some interesting things regarding Kogan Mobile and how they are using the word 'unlimited', when their plans aren't...

Nocan Service From Kogan Mobile
"KOGAN MOBILE PTY LTD actually do have a clear guideline that constitutes what they class as “Acceptable Use” however they have not put that on their policy.

The guideline is as such;

A user is not allowed to use more than ;

  • 400 SMS in a day
  •
100 MMS in a day
  •
800MB of data in a day
  • 6 hours of mobile calls in a day

Nocan Service From Kogan Mobile

Seems from the FB page that people are upset about the data... and Kogan have already disconnected people for breaching 800MB a day.

You would be hard pressed to breach the SMS/MMS/calls without doing commercial things.

But I suspect some people are using this as a cheapish 25+ GB / month tethered computer access

800MB x 30 = 24,000MB = 24GB.... so this is the effective limited Kogan is putting on it.

Their plans include 6gb per month with unlimited calls/sms.

The main beef that customers have is, if you have 6gb per month, you should be able to use it whenever/however you want. Not limited to 800mb a day.

OK guys Kogan testing completed - 100% satisfaction for the purpose we require it.

I was in China for a week and my guys in the workshop exhausted the complimentary 100mins call on the $4.99 starter pack whilst I was away. This was just a test to see that we could reach customers Australia wide - network 100% effective not a hiccup.

For $300 unlimited calling pa our tech guys will be using this Kogan SIM card to call our customers with problems Australia wide - they can call and talk to their little hearts content. This SIM will pay for itself in 3mths for that purpose only - I may even be able to drop one incoming line (rental $39/mth I think) further enhancing the value.

Thanks to all the guys who contributed to the thread - I had never intended to use this as my primary mobile SIM - but as thread title indicates it has changed our game in-house here.
