Kogan Mobile - Game Changer? [Gone!]

Its not the Telstra 4G network, if you look at the coverage its the poorest of the lot being the old network they shared with three and does not even support HSUPA AFAIK.

Basically, Yes its on Telstra, but its not really Telstra, and certainly only 3G and not all of 3G at that.

IMHO there are better MVNO plans out there (admittedly on Optus), namely TPG and LiveConnected, depending on what you want and how much you use.

The Kogan mobile site says they use the Telstra 3G network on 850Mhz which covers 97% of the population - how is that not really Telstra? I understand there is no 4G access but 3G on Telstra is usually a lot better than the other two excuses for a mobile network.

OT - Kogan Mobile - Game Changer?

Kogan always says "part of the Telstra network". If you compare the Telstra and Kogan coverage maps there is quite a bit missing from Kogan. Of course, you also miss out on the increasing 4g network completely.

Telstra covers 99% of the population. Kogan has access to 97%.

Where people live is not always where travelers need coverage, if you look at the coverage maps its pretty patchy, mostly major highways and towns.

Major highways and towns sounds good to me. I don't think travelers to remote parts of Australia are Kogan's target demographic....besides if there is no Telstra coverage good luck with Floptus or Vodafail (*some minor exceptions I acknowledge)

There's Telstra coverage, just not with Kogan.

As previously mentioned, the real Telstra is 99% of the population (3G or NextG - 4G is just getting started and expanding), 97% equates to coverage similar to 3 or Vodafone - and to be honest, there's coverage and there's coverage. I was with 3/Vodsafone for a bit, coverage was cough and they called me a liar when I said I couldn't get coverage in my street, because "the map" said it was covered. One salesman even suggested if I signed up for a further 2 years my coverage would improve!

One fantastic person who worked in a Vodafone shop, actually admitted I'd be better off jumping ship to Telstra. The rest just blatantly lied.

Having been a Telstra customer for some 6+ years, and switching to Live Connected (Optus) some 6 months ago, l can tell you from my personal experience that the coverage between Telstra and Optus is chalk and cheese. Sure, Optus might have coverage, but the drop outs and slow 3G internet is shocking (even in Metro Sydney/Brisbane).

There is a huge thread on Whirlpool regarding Kogan Mobile. $299 for 1 year unlimited mobile, SMS and 6gb data is a good deal l think.

We are based in Cheltenham Melb - I am going to trial it for a month and if OK buy 2 x 12mth unlimited for outgoing calls for business.

My biggest question is how good will customer service be.

There offer is good value but!!!!

If it is cough well nothing is lost and you can change back as it is pre paid with no contracts.

The value offering looks great as it also includes calls to 13 1300 and 1800 number as well. Most post paid plans don't include those calls.

It will be good to have a look at in 3 to 6 months of they have the same offering or do the dilute the offering.

I read an article that showed the Kogan speeds were about half of the Telstra speeds in the same area.

Not sure how good the coverage is.

I used to be with Live connected and tened to find the speeds pretty woeful for the internet.

Having moved back to a direct Optus customer I seem to have a much better service for data access.

OT - Kogan Mobile - Game Changer?

Never ordered from Kogan so not sure what acceptable is but 11 days is just crazy.

The product is not being custom made.

If its like everything else they sell it will be packaged up offshore after somebody sits on the order for a week...
