Hi everyone,

I've made a late booking for an overseas trip and Malaysian Air were the only ones with J class reward seats. My transit time in KL is for 1 hour 35 minutes. Having a look on flight tracking history the flight PER to KLIA MH126 regularly runs late. Will 95 minutes be adequate for transit time or say 45 minutes if the flight is delayed? There is a flight later in the evening but that is a 12 hour wait in KL which I'd rather avoid. I've booked through ASIA miles. Will Malaysia air accommodate me on the later flight if this is delayed?

Was also seeing if anyone had any comments / reviews on the Perth to KL flight via J class.

Cheers!

Where are you connecting to, and is it on the same booking and ticket? If it’s from the satellite building in KLIA (C gates), to another in that building you are likely ok (even with 45 mins), but a transfer to the main/regional building and getting to your gate if it’s not nearby could be tight. It’s also security at the gate, and can be painfully slow at times, at KUL.

Cheers,
Matt.

The flights are all on one itinerary / one booking ref. The next flight is with MH and arrive / depart at T1

At KUL, even ¾ hour should be enough. At KUL T1 (was called KLIA) there are really two terminals, the main (G and H gates) and Satellite (C gates). If the connection is in the one building (G/H to G/H or C to C) ½ hour may be enough - but do not dally or hesitate to ask for directions.

If you do need to transfer between the Main and Satellite terminals, there is a currently a free Bus service for this (the train is out of action)..

You will need to pass through security at the gate.

If you miss the flight due MH delays then they should re-accommodate you.

Ok - assuming T1 = KLIA vs KLIA2 (the budget terminal), there is still the KLIA main or KLIA satellite buildings to move between, depending on arrival and departure. That’s what I was talking about. - both are in the same international terminal, but it feels like a terminal transfer to move between them. If you can figure out the likely departure gate for the onward flight from past departures, then you should be able to confirm if you are switching terminal buildings or not.

Cheers,
Matt.

We flew through KL in early May and just two days ago and we were delayed on flight from Adelaide due to KL congestion. We had 2.5 transit time originally which went back to an hour and this was stacks of time. No bus transit as both gates were in C area Most flights seem to depart from here.

Thanks everyone for the help above.

The flight is MH0174 to Mumbai - looking at the departure info for today it departed from gate G. Yesterday it was gate H

My concern is with the flight MH126 which has an extremely poor on time performance. The scheduled arrival is 0750, however, it has arrived 40+ minutes late consistently in the last few days.

If this ran late would MH place me on the next flight in J class (if space is available?)

Yes as both your sectors are on the one ticket and operated by the same airline.

Note that "if space is available" might mean the next day or an offer to put you in Y on the next flight as J is full.

If the timing is not critical to get into BOM, then I would leave it the way it is and don't accept a downgrade in cabin. You may get a free hotel stay out of it if shunted to the next day

Copy that. The next flight is actually later that night on the a330 so a more comfortable seat. But would mean i'm stuck in KLIA for a good few hours. Would likely avoid a downgrade if I can too

Our flight also was to Mumbai and it was in the satellite space so same terminal.

Interesting, so could be a bit further but still within that terminal. Is 45 minutes adequate then?

You’ll almost certainly arrive at C gates in the T1 satellite building, and depart from the G/H gates which are in the T1 Main building. There was an aerotrain that ran every few mins for transfer between the two buildings, but they are replacing it, and it’s bus transfers instead until at least 2025. If you have 45 mins to connect and need to move from satellite to main, it’s going to be tight. As others have said though, an MH>MH connection on the same [J] ticket is as well protected as you can be, so it might be best just not to worry about it, and enjoy the journey!

Cheers,
Matt.

I have been following comments here with interest. I leave in a few weeks, but flying Malindo from Perth and TK from KUL. All on the same J ticket. Transit time is 1 hr 40 mins, so I feel pretty confident now. Return transit is 3 hours, so more lounge time between TK and MH flights.

Just following up on how your connection was.
Was MH126 late and did you make your connecting flight?
Or did you get moved to another flight?

I have a similar situation in a few weeks with a connecting flight to Tokyo, and see that MH126 has very poor on-time performance.

Sorry I can’t be of any help! There was an aircraft swap from an A330 to B737 which was the final straw for me. Regional biz seats for Malaysia looked atrocious. Ended up changing to Qatar.

Similar thing happened to me with my now cancelled Oman Air flights. Wanted to put us on the B737 instead of the booked A330. Plus if the MH flight was its normal 40+ minutes late I would miss the Oman flight and have to wait 24 hours for the next possible one.

Yeah that's frustrating. What did you end up doing?
In my case there's no MH flight to Tokyo until nearly 40 hours later, so i'm worried about that. I would be pushing for them to put me on a JAL (also one world) flight a few hours later instead, but don't know if they would do that
