Evening everyone.
Soon I will be doing the SYD-MEL Jetstar International sector for a change, but quite new to the International side of things, so can someone help me out?
1. Is Checkin usually miles long for JQ35?, and does it open 3 hours beforehand?
2. Is their a special lane that I go through in Customs, isn't their a special pass?
3. Web-checkin available for this flight?
4. How long before departure does boarding commence?
5. Can I show the Qantas Terminal transfer bus my Itinerary and get a free trip over from the Domestic terminal?

Comments really appreciated.:)

IME;
1. Yes if in the Y lines.
2. You get a bright orange sticker on your boarding pass - which allows you to use the APEC lanes and express through customs.
3. N/A as I check-in at boarding in the J lines which is much faster.
4. I recall it is 20minutes but the gate is SOOOOO far away from the lounges and you also catch a mini-bus from the terminal to your plane - so you end up waiting anyway.
5. Dont know as I've never tried this.

  1. Check-in opens approx 3 hours before the flight. Queues are often already formed some time beforehand.
If travelling StarClass; note that for this flight there are generally very few starClass passengers and the StarClass queue may not be obvious, or indeed, exist. If a StarClass passenger cannot find it they should go straight to the service desk and ask.
  2. D sticker Queue
  3. No!
  4. 30 or 40 Minutes.
  5. By rights, only if inbound to SYD on QF/oneworld or JQ. Sometimes your QF35 e-ticket receipt is sufficient.

Having done this flight a few times now for F Lounge runs :D, I can answer these questions....

1. Check-in only opens 3 hrs beforehand, or at least that is the earliest it will open up. Special priority lane is only for Star Class passengers. QFF status pax get no priority; you cannot use the QF F check-in even if you are Star Class and/or QF WP.

If airside time is a big thing for you and you are not travelling Star Class, I recommend lining up at the counter as soon as you can.

2. You will get a boarding pass with an orange D sticker attached to it. The D sticker records details of the photo identification you presented at check-in (e.g. drivers license, passport, etc.). There is a special lane at immigration for D stickers and APEC people - you can use that lane if the other lanes are moving too slowly. They will stamp the D sticker in SYD as well as incoming in MEL.

Note that you do not need a passport to travel on JQ35 SYD-MEL, but you do need photo ID. Immigration procedures are not expedited any faster with or without a passport.

3. No web check-in. You can register a preference for your seat - of course, no guarantees.

4. Boarding commences 40 minutes before departure - this is the textbook definition. I recommend moving towards the gate at around this time if not a bit earlier. This is not one of those flights you want to run for - especially since it usually docks at the Star Alliance concourse (i.e. the farthest one from the QF lounges!) Shuttle buses between the oneworld and Star Alliance concourses are available at gate ~26.

5. By rights you can if your incoming flight to SYD is on QF or oneworld. Truth be told I haven't tried this yet, especially since the incoming SYD flight and JQ35 are on separate itineraries, but reading the "rules" on the QF website (Sydney T1/T2/T3 airport information), this is what I construe from it. You will probably need a copy of your JQ35 documentation and/or your incoming-to-SYD BP.

Other notes:
  • Since this leaves from an international terminal, liquids etc. rules apply. Quarantine laws also apply when you touch down in MEL (so don't be surprised if sniffer dogs are parading around), but you do not need to fill out any immigration cards (i.e. green (outgoing) or orange (incoming)).
  • One part of the JQ BP will be taken at the gate at SYD; the other part will be taken at customs at MEL. So you will have no BP after you travel this route. If you need to keep the BP for any reason, you should consider taking a photograph of it once you receive it in SYD. A photocopy in the QF lounge works just as well.

I second the suggestion to make a photocopy of the BP in the QF lounge. When I did this flight a little while back (I was the only person in *class with 2 FA's ... was a little odd), I needed that photocopy to actually get the flight to credit to my QF account.

This can be checked for sure on the 25 April 2009, but with QF boarding pass and onward departure from the international terminal it won't be a problem, as I have done the same coming in on Qantas and flying out on Singapore Airlines. Qantas didn't have an A380 when I last did a Qantas/SQ transfer.

Over the years I have been asked for my inbound BP at the gate 2 transfer desk several times - most recently August last year; the other 2 or 3 hundred times - no.

iirc the SYD-xMEL flight then heads to BKK so there is a *class Q

To DPS, and yes there is *class however you need to be travelling *class to lineup in that line; status will not provide you with access to that queue.

What aircraft is JQ35? Specifically on Oct 3. I can't seem to find that info anywhere.

Bumping an old thread, but I read this before taking JQ35 today from SYD-MEL and thought I'd update on this.

I don't know if it's now typical, but today at least JQ35 left SYD from Gate 30. Gate 30 is basically the gate closest to the QF lounges, and there certainly wasn't a mini-bus involved :)
