Illustrating why i have to date largely avoided Jetstar for anything beyond extremely basic travel (ie. a single, non-time critical economy flight).

Booked business max SGN-SYD-MEL JQ62 (months ago) expressly because I got the 787 SYD-MEL and didn’t need to transfer terminals in SYD / got the “J” seating on SYD-MEL. It also left at the prefect time and got me home at the right time.

SYD-MEL leg of QF62 now cancelled (along with later departure ex-SGN). Now on a domestic connection SYD-MEL. New itinerary sent without any alternative options. Now lose most of Friday whereas previously i was back in MEL by 2pm (again, why I booked it the way i did).

I’m unable to select seat on SYD-MEL (selection gets stuck in dead loop when i select the SYD-MEL leg to try and pick seat). Jetstar online assistance i gave up after waiting online an hour. Ticket still showing business max.

Leaving me pondering the following:

What SC will i now earn?
Will i get “free” seat selection? Exit row / first row? Or should i find a quiet time (haha) and sit online waiting for assistance to help select seat)? Can JQ checkin in SGN allocate me a (decent) seat SYD-MEL?
Can I use the QF transfer bus in SYD (noting it goes the wrong terminal) or am i stuck on the train?

And of course, one i had already pondered when i clicked purchase, why did i book Jetstar?

(I note JQ64 goes direct SGN-MEL on the Friday night and presumably i could seek a change to that flight, but then I’m not home until Saturday afternoon which isn’t desirable.)

Your advise on the pondering above is appreciated. 😊

Your mockery for booking on Jetstar is also understandable……🫣

You should still be able to get on a 12pm qantas service from Sydney? The SGN-SYD arrives 950 or so, allow a couple hours and the transfer is done and on your way.

Yes, you can use the transfer bus, on exit just head to the domestic connections and go through, including bus.

In any event, as soon as you land and get your bags in SYD just head to the transfer counters, they’ll put you on the next available service to MEL. Seating might be an issue by then, but you’ll at least be home.

Cannot see JQ putting anyone on a QF service in that scenario, conditions of carriage state alternative Jetstar services only.
