JQ 787 Nightmare-liner to Bali

I too agree that the narrow width of the seat plus lack of decent quality padding on the JQ 787's, the seats are very uncomfortable on any flight longer than 5 hours , particularly in the Y cabin.

Needlesss to say I travelled on Finnair's (AY) new A350 product in Y recebtly on the HKG > HEL sector, where being OWE and my partner being OWS we snatched seats in the Extra legroom rows in Y onboard the aircraft ( first 5 rows of Y).

Whilst the legroom was good, the comfort factor of the AY Economy seat on the A350, was striking similar to a JQ Y seat on the 787, with extremely narrow seats and little in the way of padding of the slim seat. A very sore experience!

I would hate to think of the comfort factor further back in Y on the A350!

If I had to choose between the two seats ( Y on a B787 or Y on a A350) for comfort factor, unfortunately it's very much line ball, and both are narrow and uncomfortable on long haul.

Have flown JQ's 788 MEL/BKK in J and service very good. Not much of a foot rest though as it's pretty much like an aluminum ladder rung but not too bad for a day flight.

The BKK/MEL in Y was chockers so despite myself & SO taking a gamble and choosing the aisle and window G & J seats hoping for a spare we ended up with a random pax in the middle H seat.

At 165cm I''m not that tall but could not stretch my legs under the seat in front like I can in in whY on all a/c in the QF fleet and I'm guessing that's why I had puffy ankles after the flight which doesn't usually happen.
If I had to fly whY again on the 788 despite preferring window seats I'd choose a D or F aisle seat so I could get up and do regular laps of the cabin.

Garuda are a real good option much better seats and service than JQ.

Depends if you're choosing the carrier on seats & service or the people driving the bus, so for me that would rule out GA, QZ & 3K.

Ta. It's a late night departure on last day of conference. Likely to be some company. Wonder if a mob of scientists can try being loud and obnoxious drunks? ;) I also have priority pass access that I could look into.

Priority Pass will get you into the Premier Lounge at DPS. There are plenty of eateries that look quite okay in the bew DPS terminal.

I know a 1 hour flight is not the benchmark but sitting in bulkhead in row 10 on JQ 787 was quite ok. On par if not better than row 23 on QF A330.

Thanks JohnK we are flying JQ to DPS next week (and return a couple of weeks later). We have secured row 10 and your post has reassured me that we should be comfortable.

Row 10 is OK if there's only 2 of you in it. Otherwise very squashy. A little while ago I stupidly booked a couple of cheapish JQ fares MEL-SIN, and even though I have 10A, I am constantly deferring the flights in favour of something slightly nicer.

I for one will never book another Y seat on a JQ 787, even if they paid me. Lesson learnt.

In hindsight from my original post I would be picking 2 aisle seats across from each other in row 10.

Have flown the 787 once more from OOL-NRT after receiving a JQ voucher which made a J ticket make sense - my original review still stands.

We had 2 aisles as well but daughter became agitated before takeoff and I asked FA if wife can sit next to me to nurse daughter. FA said that's possible after takeoff but then came back a minute later and said ok to move now. They had already done the safety demo and about to taxi so pretty pleased they allowed wife to move.

Not really on topic I guess, but I'm amused that anyone uses the term 'Dreamliner'.

Isn't there a marketing term for claiming your weakness as strengths. Spin I guess. A bit like Volvo's attempt to take ownership of 'bloody Volvo driver'...which failed because it reminded us of its truth.

I took the 787-9 on Scoot and it seemed the cabin was much wider than the 8, with any luck it won't be an issue for QF

edit: boeing says the cabin width is identical between the two :(:(

It's actually the same size "barrel". The 789 is just longer. Cabin internal dimensions are exactly the same except for length
