Just had the displeasure of taking a trip on the 787 to DPS last week and have to say it will definitely be the last mid/long haul flight I ever consider on these.

Economy cabin is effectively the same domestic slimline A320 seat crammed into 3-3-3 high density configuration.

Was seated in row 10 which as a bulkhead has decent knee and leg room but this did little to offset the discomfort of the reduced width and elbow room - being seated effectively IN the window. Little or no padding to the seat means you should consider taking pillows for your b@tt & back!

Arrival was accompanied by hip, elbow and back pain.

In addition the cabin is very understaffed for their service plan - our Plus meals came out first but then all call bells for ignored for hours whilst the crew struggled to handle the buy on board service for the rest of the cabin - at 1 point there were 8 groups illuminated with calls in the front mini cabin alone. In the end we dumped our trays in the galley after getting sick of crew darting passed avoiding looking at us.

If JQ really think they can make long haul work as an LCC they'll need to rethink their approach, can't see how even the most cost-conscious punters would consider a second go in these pain-buses.

The return on Business was obviously a much better seat and service but is barely a Premium Economy product - only worth it with a deeply discounted sale price.

If you're considering JQ to DPS I would be recommend VA or TT's 737s over the Nightmare-Liner, still a domestic configuration but at least more width & padding to the seat and less pax for the crew to deal with.

I have Done Jet* to Bali. (in *class) it was fine. i had a look back at the Cattle class lot, and nothing would induce me to sit back there.
Having Done Bali once, i see not point in returning, i would however be interested in other parts of Indonesia, in spite of pretty much having my fill of SE Asian destinations .

A combination I would never consider. Bali and Jetstar.
Oh pooh, doing exactly this in just over a month. Just need to know where to stay. Sadly the jetstar route is the only one available. On that we will agree.

Conrad is great I am told and the GM, Frederic Lebegue is pretty good value.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yep - in Y, on JQi, the A330s were heaps better, comfort wise.

I think Y-class "service" varies a lot on how full it is. I've found it quite OK many times.

Garuda are a real good option much better seats and service than JQ.

We do AirAsia to Bali all the time, but flying out of Perth, it is merely a 3,5 hr trip. We also make sure we get first row seats and I will adjust our flight to get those said seats as they are the only ones with decent leg room and recline.
Next time I might have a look at Garuda though, but most of the time we fly return, with luggage for $450 for the both of us and its hard to beat :)

I would never even consider JQ after all the hassle a lot of my coworkers have had.

We are calling there on Golden Princess in November and I'm not sure we will even go ashore.

if you have time to take a tour away from the southern tourist areas, Ubud and the north are quite nice - if I went again I would be heading north - Mt Batur is quite spectacular

I was on the very first flt that JQ 787 flew MEL-DPS in Y - it was a great flt - sat with a mate and we had the crew eating out of our hands - it was a daytime flt - return o/n was a nightmare so I am told - NFI - took a sleeping tablet and slept the whole way - go figure.

Thanks for the thought. I will have a look.

As an aviator I would not consider Garuda due to the cultural issues in their training and crewing.

The flights out to Eastern coast on Jetstar are awful - departing at dreadful o'clock for a five hour flight. Any benefit of the holiday sucked out by that one flight. This time we are travelling direct ADL - DPS then departing at 8am to Perth on the day after the AFL Grand Final, transiting in Perth for a few hours, then on Qantas back to Adelaide arriving around 8pm. The lounge in Perth will be well used,

You're flying J* and surprised that its rubbish?

I've not flown the 787, but have done the 737 J* from Perth and the experience wasn't good. Next time was VA and happy, but they no longer that. Most recently was Garuda and by far the best option for Y. Highly recommend. Seat pitch in Y is 33-34"!

JQ 737 from PER? I am willing to bet you haven't.
