Just a thought:
Qantas has clearly said that its seasonal service between Perth and Auckland was made possible by using A330 aircraft which usually sit idle in Perth all weekend. Why couldn't one of those A330s do a couple of Perth-Singapore flights each weekend, which just happens to be the most popular time of the week to fly between Australia and Asia? They wouldn't need any more aircraft as they are already in Perth earning nothing. They could either run it as a standalone 2x weekly service (the same as with AKL) or they could even use their newer 737-800s to fill the gap during the week, when demand would appear to be lower. Surely that would be better than nothing, while being a good utilisation of aircraft and at the same time earning back a bit of reputation in Perth.
