All, am travelling back from REP (Siem Reap) in October. Arrive in HKG from REP at 15:30 and then depart HKG to SYD on QF 128 @ 20:05 . These are booked separately, but I want to get my baggage checked through, so I don't need to collect and recheck. Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Both tickets have my QFF# associated with. Do I call QFF Plat line, or call Dragonair? Thoughts please....

Is not possible to combine the tickets, but should be possible to get them linked

Best call Dragon Air and have the Qantas segment added as an information segment given they are the first airline you are checking in with.

Then at check-in ask for the bags to be checked through.
Be prepared to be insistent and ensure you have all the paperwork for second flight including the Ticket Number, not just Booking Ref
and check the bag tags (as I suspect the agents at REP will be third party and may not be that familiar with CX systems)

Your other option is to check bags in REP to HKG only and when you get to HKG go to transfer counter and ask them to transfer bags to QF flight.

I have done this a few times without hassles. One time was from a CX to VS flight.

If you bring your QF to the check-in counter the KA agent at REP will be able to through check the bag. They just need to be able to retrieve the second booking. No need to call anyone in advance.

Having your QF ffn in both of the separate bookings has no bearing on whether KA will through check bags to QF. All that counts is whether KA are prepared to through check to QF on separate pnrs. It's nothing to do with the QFF Plat line as it's a question for KA at REP.

Calling KA & advising them of your QF flight number is a waste of time as ghost or info segments don't generate to the checkin system they just sit in the reservations pnr so you'll be back to square one when you checkin at REP ie all they will see is your REP/HKG flight & no oncarriage.

As mentioned above it simply comes down to whether or not the KA checkin people at REP are prepared to through check your bags to QF on separate pnrs.

As JohnK mentioned if your bags are only checked to HKG, go and see the transfer desk & ask them to re-tag your bag behind the scenes to the QF flight & give you a boarding pass for the QF flight.
