Despite everything being said I'm sure JB wishes that the wider staff of VA were even half as well trained and knowledgeable as the QF team. Hopefully he well get them there. The best that could be said for VA at the moment is...well...lets say they are trying:confused: (and they are friendly)

Most likely QFs schedule didn't agree with his so SQ was taken. It probably happens a lot more in the industry then we realise.

I thought it was because he was SQ's guest and it was related to the SQ repair work that was done on the A380.

Respectfully I did provide the example of AJ travelling SQ as an indication of staff engagement juxtaposed to JB travelling on VA.

If you don't agree that's fine but it doesn't make my view any less valuable than yours.

Ok so 1 flight for unknown reasons to us AJ flew on SQ. It was pointed out that the QF connections would have meant a night in SIN to turn around. I'd say his time is more valuable in the office than in SIN.

Put it another way, how many times a month do you think AJ flies on QF? Probably a fair bit but none is reported. I'm not saying your view is less valuable, I'm saying it was ill informed.

The reasoning given for him travelling on SQ was that it was the only way to get there and back in a day. I actually think that is a pretty poor excuse - he could have flown QF and spent the day working on the aircraft - the little feller does need to sleep so why not do it in SIN?

I think it's showing commercial sensibility. If AJ was a polly, it would have been a return on a G5

Off topic, but if I was QF CEO I'd be flying SG, VA, CX, BA, etc..........I'd want first hand experience of the competition. No doubt I would get lots of stick!!

It would not be hard for the schedule to not suit any QF traveller when compared to SQ going to SIN from most Australian cities.

Yes and who can we blame for that !!! AJ himself, well basically him....

Nice one - good to see him flying his own metal and interacting with the front line staff unlike a certain other major Australian CEO who travels on competitors!

Indeed, I believe AJ flew from Sydney to Singapore

On QF you have the non-stop flights of
QF319 (BA) at 15:45 B744
QF5 at 15:50 B744
QF1 at 16:10 A380

SQ
SQ212 at 8:05 773 (Refurbished)
SQ232 at 11:15 A380
SQ222 at 15:15 A380
SQ242 at 17:50 A330

Can anyone else see a problem here if you want to get to SIN at anytime but around 21:00 ..... ? QF..................

Richard Branson flew Qantas recently so seems like they all like sampling the competition - makes total sense to me!!

I had the pleasure of flying with John this morning who is a really nice guy.

He had a chat with the cabin crew and a couple of pax in J.

He made comment that he is thankful for having great employees who are dedicated to making flying a great experience.

I look forward to more flights on DJ!

Outstanding and slightly jealous ;)

I often see John Borghetti park his white Porscha at T2....always the same spot too at valet...

Tbh why he took the flight is irrelevant and we can myopically argue the point until the cows come home. The point is, and has been from the beginning - the staff culture is miles apart between VA and QF.

Agreed, don't think it's a big deal at all...more likely they needed a flight at a particular time and like any business traveller they took the airline which met that requirement.

Except he is not like any other business traveller. He is the CEO of a travel business.

Who has no interest in growing Qantas mainline, so claiming he is flying the competition to "suss them out" is far from accurate.

He/They (the board) claim to be serious about Asia and premium travel to/from Asia. I read over the weekend that they still want a Singapore based "premium airline" up and running as soon as they can "work things out with the Singapore Government"

I said it above, with QF if you want to get to Singapore you leave at 15:45, 15:50 or 16:10....

SQ
8:05, 11:15, 15:15, 17:50

Adding to that an A320 flying SYD-DRW-SIN...

I'll take the SQ A380 please

Awesome! I would love to chew his ear off for a minute or two.

Did you give him any feedback?

I have visited many Coles stores & other major international retail brands throughout the world with the CEO/MD & the exec team of Woolworths Ltd - it's very normal.

Then why bring it up apart from a cheap shot???

And I disagree with your comment on the staff culture. I've flown both carriers multiple times in the last few months and personally I don't see much difference between them.

Perhaps you should try a visit to the maintenance facilities of each airline, especially in your home town ;)

Not sure about Nick, but the likelihood of me visiting a QF or DJ maintenance facility is pretty low. Could you expand on your comment please?

The news this morning of the likely closure of the MEL facility and AVV without government handouts, in comparison to the move by DJ to bring more work back onshore. The difference in morale between the two airlines maintenance workers would be quite large I imagine even before this morning, as evidenced by the industrial action last year, in contrast to the quoted little difference in cabin crew morale, where some of the unhappy ones have probably already taken one of the many QF redundancies on offer.

Edit: fixed grammar.

Thanks for that..now I understand. Rather sad for QF employees. :(
