Just booked SYD-KUL-SYD for September. Only drama is I'm hesitant to book ground arrangements until the required approval for the flights is given, but I'd imagine if they're selling tickets it should be a pretty safe bet?

Booking process was easy, not JQ-like website dramas. And, for once, it actually launched right on midnight!

Would have been nice if there were some StarClass specials going as well. I'd probably give it a try :)

Did I miss it or was there nothing on offer out of Perth as usual?:(

You know that bloody JQi codeshare on the QF jumbo (SYD-PER) stuffs up my QF OLCI senses... Just when you think you are on an empty flight at T-24, along comes all the "riff raff" to invade what you had thought would be a pleasant experience.

Seriously though, besides HNL, how is JQi going to sell PER cheap fares, when it has to route you via the east coast to Asia?!?! ;)

P.S. The only fares that are reasonable in this offer [from SYD], are to KUL, on special again due to poor pre-sales?! In my estimation, KUL was JQi's first attempt to "up" their launch fare pricing strategy (compared to HKT, BKK), and it has not been successful - yay!

Just fly Tiger. It is surely cheap enough already!

Why don't you just pay SGD$25 extra per sector for Tiger 'Seat Selector Preferred' and get the emergency/extra leg room seat?

I'd suspect the same with KL. They launched with fairly high fares and didn't exactly pull people in. Add to that the fact that Malaysia attracts not even close to the number of leisure travellers that Thailand does.

Hopefully these cheaper fares have upped sales a bit, with my luck they'll cancel the service the day after I book my ground arrangements!

Honestly speaking I don't understand why JQ limit recent 2 sales (the bring a friend + $3 & the current A$199 sales) on KUL route for ex. australia pax only. During their Syd-Kul launched on Jan, the lauched fare (A$250nett OW) was offered for both ex. Syd & ex. KUL pax. However subsequent sales on this route has been limit to ex. australia pax only. Honestly speaking the only marketing campaign they did in Malaysia is the official press release to the local media on January and went quiet since then.

Frankly speaking if they're really serious on filling up the seats on this route, they got to be serious and start selling & have the marketing campaign like true LCC carriers.

Methinks JQ are mainly targeting Ex Oz passengers. Perhaps they feel the can't compete cost wise with LCCs born and based in Asia.

Struggling to cope with MH judging by their fare levels. WOuld suggest they have little hope against the LCC's

Is it true that non sales airfares offered by JQi to Malaysia and Thailand are higher than airfares offered by other full service carriers?

Depending on where you live in the country, yes. The fares BNE-BKK are well above the base level fares of Thai. Thai are currently offering $865 return and JQi are over $1100. Not hard to guess which one you would fly.

I should have mentioned MEL/SYD/BNE as this appears to be where JQi is targetting.

I can see that even MH fares SYD-BKK via KUL are only just higher than JQi but with much better service. And I am guessing that for not much more than the current airfare you can also have a stopover in KUL.

It is really not hard to see why JQi normal airfares are very hard to sell. Does not sound like good business sense to have a LLC priced the same as, or even higher than, a full service carrier. Is anyone buying any JQi economy non sale airfares? If so, why?

Agree. I have money burning a hole in my pocket for a KUL or SIN or BKK to SYD say December 20 something - and they don't want it!
Now you would think TIGER's entry would be anticipated about then. ^ months to sit on my money, plus poke Tiger in the eye.
I am a fan of KL, much under-rated, but at this rate the odds are ML or Tiger will win my discounted return leg. Perhaps Austrian MK2 if they dont wake up.

MH is reasonably flexible, and normally stopovers are allowed in KUL at no extra airfare. And aside from the first outbound sector, you can generally move your flights around for free as well (subject to class availibility and all).

How does JQ compare with TG?

Cant answer how the two compare.
But new question should you fly tiger to perth.
Rather than wait for a cheap PER to SYD to flight, is it possible to get it cheaper becase it is part of an international return leg? and not have to wait for a sale?

If Tiger on their website ,did a deal that let you book the per to syd leg - they would get more business - at least until they get fair access.
True, bad for greenhouse warming, but not when Jetstar quote $700 one way.
