A couple of years ago a JQ purser suggested SYD-LAS might have been a go-er for the 787. I know purser's often do not have credible information, but LAS seems like a good stepping stone for a 787. Seems like it might have the range to do so, just.

It wasnt Mr Warne moonlighting by chance?

I think Air Asia proved that LCC's do not work for ultra long-haul when they pulled out of Europe.

I've also thought a three-times weekly VA 777 SYD-LAS could work - it's an extremely popular destination for Australians.

Wouldn't want to rock the boat with Delta, they'd be putting a decent amount of Aussie bums on seats LAX-LAS (and same for QF/AA)

Really is a shame QFi will not be getting any of the 787's. I know QF has stated previously until they get a reasonable return on capital they won't invest in it but you have to wonder how they can get a decent return without investment.

I'm looking forward to the A330's coming to QF from JQ - one of my fave birds to fly on the QF fleet.

Couldn't agree more! They have disappeared from BNE-PER :( replaced by 767's even if they are refurbished birds, there are no great Y seats.

Don't they need permission to fly after the li-ion battery problem first??

Why would you pay for something not authorised to fly?

Maybe I've had too many champs in the KUL platinum lounge on way to CDG???

[-]Every Y seat now has pedals under it for all the cool electrical gimmicks. No need for batteries.[/-]

I believe they modified the design and added a vent to outside incase it happens again.

I believe they modified the design and added a vent to outside incase it happens again.

I believe that they also encased the battery pack in stainless steel to contain any potential fire.

Launch customer All Nippon Airways was first in line for the fix, which includes improved separation of individual lithium-ion cells within the 63-pound battery and installing the battery in a heavy-duty sealed stainless steel box vented directly to the exterior of the fuselage. On Saturday, the airline completed a flight test of the new system with several airline and Boeing executives aboard.
