Great work dfcatch. It's a shame the crucial part about international connections was omitted from the moderated question.

When I pointed out to him that he was wrong and that not only do I have a CC statement and JQ Baggage receipt proving so, but that I also have emails from QF & JQ Customer Care confirming it - he condescendingly said "Well the customer's always right", got up and left!

He wasn't a very good Communications Manager :)

Although I feel the poor man walked straight into the bear trap... perhaps it would've been fairer if I had have identified myself as an AFF'er ;)

Thanks for taking the effort to put those questions forward, back to "communications" school for that manager......

So just to confirm that I'm not wrong.....

I just made a dummy booking from QF USA site - LAX-SYD-CNS.

LAX-SYD - QF12
SYD-CNS - QF5686

(which is the itinerary the booking engine offered as 1st choice)

Return is:

CNS-SYD - QF5681
SYD-LAX - QF11

Now - on the booking screen there is a small Orange Star and the small print which states "Flight Operated by Jetstar" (Of course as an American this means nothing.... just like QF43 "Operated by JetConnect", or my CNS-TSV last week "Operated by Sunstate Airlines").....

There is some small print down the bottom - repeated on the Flight Bookings - Review page that states - "Food, beverages and entertainment are not included on Jetstar services unless you book Jetstar Business."

If you click on the hyperlinked Flight Number - you get much the same information if you further click "Information on traveling with Jetstar".

The closest disclaimer is the small text under the price information (under the other small text talking about taxes and charges) which states - "If the trip involves a flight on both Qantas and Jetstar, baggage needs to be collected and airlines changed at your transfer point." (well of course I have to collect my luggage at customs....duh)

The next page requires my CC so I'll stop there.......

NOWHERE does it inform me of the necessary disclaimers clearly and plainly that I am in fact NOT getting a Qantas flight despite QF code, that I won't receive points/SC's, that I will have to pay for luggage, and it barely informs me of no through-checked baggage and lack of service.

Nowhere does it tell me that I will have to pay and make my own way from T1 to T2 and vv.

Particularly misleading when I have clicked through to the booking engine from the QF email marketing the Great Barrier Reef to me and telling me that I will get to fly the A380, receive points and status credits, free baggage allowance, IFE, etc etc.

Surely there has to be a legal claim against QF for deceptive conduct and bait and switch advertising. The intent of the email marketing is deceptive and misleading and given QF is knowingly forcing people to connect with an inferior product without due compensation - surely there is a requirement on QF's part to be more upfront and unmistakenly clear in the disclaimers that you get shafted with JQ..??

Red Roo - how bout a response eh?

I'm no legal expert but it is common practice for airlines to "adapt" their marketing to the local laws. A few years back in the US and Canada flights were advertised without tax and fees and etc... YYZ-SYD for 799$ (1950$ with fees...). So I would say QF is playing by the US rules when advertising in the US. Like car rental companies (hire a car for 5$ a day...). I guess Australia is just VERY good at protecting consumers.
